It's time for Democrats to call for change in way we fight terrorism...
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 03:27 PM by kentuck
The Republicans and the Defense establishment tell us that this "war" will probably go on for the rest of our lives. As our education, Medicare, Social Security, school lunches, and every program that might help the people of this country is cut to the bone, the defense budget and the war will continue to drain us as a nation. It is time to change the way we fight this war.

How do we do that? First of all, we withdraw our troops from Iraq, which had nothing to do with the "war on terrorism" in the first place. We should focus on the groups of radical terrorist in Afghanistan and along the Pakistan border. We should work with other nations to crack down on these groups. We need to round them up nation by nation as the criminals they are. We cannot fight every country in the world.

3. The thing is..
how many lives might potentially be lost to this terror threat, as opposed to how many might be lost by cutting programs like Medicaid, etc.

If 3000 in four years is what we are talking about...well, we lose more than that in a few months because we don't all wear seatbelts.

And I am not minimizing the grief of the loss of all those people.

But are we throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater here?

I don't know the answer to that question. Maybe I am just naive and the nuclear terrorist threat is much greater than I am giving credit for.
