CALIFORNIA — When California students protested military recruiters last year, they never expected to end up on a terrorist watch list. Now they want to know why.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California filed a Freedom of Information Act request last week on behalf of two student groups from California universities asking for all records and information kept on the groups by several government agencies, including the Department of Defense.

The request, filed by ACLU attorney Mark Schlosberg on Feb. 1, is an expedited request. The government agencies must decide whether or not they will process the request as expedited and notify Schlosberg with their decision within 10 days.

Department of Defense spokesman Cmdr. Greg Hicks said he did not know if the appropriate government office had received the FOI request. He said information requests are handled in accordance with U.S. government regulations.

2. That's how Gonzo is going to wrap this up.
If you're identified as a terrorist, then you lose all your rights as a citizen, and the Republicans are broadening the definition of terrorist beyond Al Qaeda members. They just won't drop that shoe, until they win the first round.

3. Well, with all the biometric identification going on, with the face scans
...and so forth, I guess everyone at demonstrations would be well advised to wear a set of Groucho Marx nose glasses--and be sure that the glasses are sunglasses, at that!

And the name of that database, TALON, reminds me of JimmyJeff....

Creepy.

6. check out this site.....

...especially this.

"For purposes of TSC's work, how is a "domestic terrorist" defined? Does the term domestic terrorist include an anti-abortion activist who breaks the law by blocking access to abortion clinics or who may be organizationally or ideologically related to those who have killed doctors or committed arson at clinics? Does it include members of Earth First or other radical environmental groups that have engaged in illegal acts and have been investigated by the FBI as domestic terrorist organizations? This concern is amplified by the fact that the only statutory definition of domestic terrorism in the U.S. Code is overbroad. As defined in the USA PATRIOT Act, the term domestic terrorism casts a wide net, and potentially covers political protesters engaging in civil disobedience.<12> This broad definition blurs the line between terrorism and aggressive or unseemly political activity protected by the First Amendment."

'....they never expected to end up on a terrorist watch list. Now they want to know why.'

How did they find out that they were on the watch list? Were they questioned? Was there reason to suspect that any of the members were suspects in possible domestic terrorism (like violent protests, vandalism of public property... college kids do this crap sometimes, sometimes it goes beyond protected protesting)? If so, was the whole group watched by association?

Just some questions with no answers that I could find. This will be interesting to watch unfold, if anything unfolds.
