Green party and 2003 San Francisco mayor race
Regarding all the talk about Greens losing elections for Democrats, the 2003 mayoral election for San Francisco mayor put what the Democratic leadership is in in perspective for me.

First of all, the Republicans and Democrats went into an alliance - the Republicans agreed to drop out to beat the Green. This says it all about the Democratic leadership. The Democrats put up a white millionaire whose campaign revolves around rounding up homeless people in downtown San Francisco and tossing their unsightly existence out of view. The Greens ran a local Hispanic district supervisor.

You never saw the Democratic leadership fight this hard to beat a Republican. Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, Dianne Feinstein, and Nancy Pelosi all came out to back the homeless-bashing millionaire Democrat. I wish the Democratic leadership fought this hard in Democratic/Republican races. But the Democrats and Republicans had made a deal. In fact Newsom, the millionaire Democratic candidate, had given campaign donations to George W. Bush.

Of course, with the Republicrat in a full alliance, the Green lost. Despite Newsom spending $40 a vote to Gonzalez's $7 a vote, Gonzalez got 47.19% of the vote. But with the Republicrat alliance, Bill Clinton and Al Gore coming out to speak for him and all of that, the grassroots movement was successfully stamped out by former DLC head Bill Clinton.

I am not from San Francisco, but this is a very clear example of what the Democratic leadership is all about.

1. I hope they beat the fuck out of the Greens. They have done nothing
but throw elections and whine.

If you want to trash Democratic candidates and promote Green candidates, you are welcome to find another website to do so.
