Abramoff is just the tip of the iceberg. The big picture shows |
|
the reason Republicans are in office. They are selling the Government to the highest bidder. I'd like to see this statistic mentioned on MSM. Let people figure it out for themsevelves. Here is the bigger picture on who the parties represent:
Pharmaceuticals: 67% REp, 33% Dems
Insurance:64% Rep, 35% Dem
Tobacco: 75% Rep, 25% Dems

11. OPENSECRETS.ORG is a great site, LOADED with information. |
|
I haven't completely 'plumbed' the depths of their data-bases. They have info on legislation too. Good place for raw data.

4. Notice how their "lobbying reform" BS lasted about a day.. |
|
They do this all the time.. Pretend they're on top of the problem, offer a nutty "solution" and then never speak of it again.
The Republican party would wither away and die without lobbiest/corporate money, so in the end they'll do nothing.

9. YES!!! email this stuff to the media and dare them to REPORT THIS! |
|
Congress.org makes it easy.
under: Organization Search: Newspapers, TV, radio, etc. , enter NBC, CBS, ABC and hit 'GO'. It gives you the network station and all local affiliates (it's good to hit the affiliates too). You can also look up newspapers too.
IF enough of us email stations and networks about this, I believe it CAN start to have an effect. But you have to stick with it.
I think many people don't even know these numbers. Why, because the Corporate media avoids stating meaningful facts? They spend hours relating how the Democrats complain about the culture of corruption and the REpublicans say "Oh my, this is terrible. We are going to reform the system!" (yeah, like they RE-formed the tax code so most of the tax reductions went to the wealthiest in the country - they call this promoting growth. Well, if most people don't get much of a tax cut, you are not going to get an increase in demand for goods and services produced by companies. And companies are not going to invest in new plant and equipment without increasing demand for their products! - No mattter how much money the wealthy have to invest. So the wealthy, not seeing much opportunity in U.S. stock market are buying bigger and extra homes and investing in foreign markets. Yeah, that will really help growth of the U.S. economy.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that bush's corporate supporters are writing legislation. Also, remember the privatized military and even the asbestos deal that Cheney's been working on since he was looking for a VP for dim son.

10. I started a thread, largely ignored, which pointed out another |

exposure we're creating. We are making ourselves vulnerable because the Republicans at the federal level, don't want to give the states the money they need to function properly. Therefore, the States are going outside our borders for help. It's naive to believe that they are going to develop contacts that won't eventually sell us out to the enemy. Remember, history. The allies we made one year, were enemies ten years later. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2443319&mesg_id=2443319

12. good stuff! I've said before, there is so much **** going on, one person |
|
can't possibly keep up with it all themself. That's what we can do for each other here on DU (and elsewhere).
THis is the result of Bush/ REpublicans floating all these "programs" and "initiatives" and not providing any monetary support. "No Child Left Behind" is a blatant example.
In the SoTU Cheney's hand puppet talked about stressing education to make U.S. more competitive. Then in his budget he cuts aid for needy students - and he still wants to make the tax cuts for the wealthiiest permanent. He wants somebody else to do the "dirty work" of saying we have to fund this stuff or it won't happen -( or the economy goes down the tubes because of enormous debt levels).
Thanks for pointing out your post. I don't get on here every day or for very long and miss stuff I wish i had seen.
