Bill Press Show had a good point re politicizing funerals
Wasn't Reagan's funeral one big Bush push?

1. Pretty much

I was so proud when Ron Jr got the one jab at Bush all week when he said that his father didn't wear his religion on his sleave.

The rest was all pretty much equating Bush with Reagan, and telling people to vote for Bush.

2. Geez, the Reagan Memorial drive started before he died
and continues today. The effort is to rename at least one public building in every county for Reagan, a pretty good trick since our governments aren't building anything except prisons and football stadia with nameing rights presold, ie, the Reagan-Doritos Bowl.

The Reagan funeral was explicitly touted as a way to make everyone remember how great Reagan was and to tie Bush to him.

Whereas, if King's funeral wasn't political, then Bush's ass shouldn't have been there to score political points. Just saying.

7. * wouldn't even deign to address the NAACP.
He would never have talked to Martin either in the day, IMHO. Mr/Ms Inland has a great point, * had to know going in that with his glittering record on human rights, let alone civil rights, that this was a celebration of an exceptional woman who had devoted her life to the exact opposite of all is he for, something about if you can't take the heat...

3. Right - it's WRONG to politicize a funeral...
by telling the truth, but RIGHT to politicize it by telling a plethora of lies over several days. This is a truthiness that is obviously heavily relied upon by the press - especially the cable news crowd.

4. Exactly right
Quite frankly, this is the same crap that pissed me off after the Wellstone memorial. So much wringing of hands and pontificating over the rightness or wrongness of politicizing a funeral.

Bottom line is, however a funeral service is conducted up ultimately up to the family of the deceased and NO ONE else.

How absolutely, disgustingly arrogant of anyone else to pass judgement on how a family feels comfortable sending their loved one to their rest.

This is nothing more than the same old manufactured outrage that has infected the people of this country.
