What proof do we have spying didn't apply to Bush's political enemies?

None. That's how much; what was said at King's funeral was perfectly apt - the FBI had wiretapped her family for years.

What makes *anybody* think that this gang of inveterate liars wasn't spying on people who have *NOTHING* to do with al Queda, but more to do with political dissent against the policies of those who would have a very differnt sort of King?

1. the fact that they bypassed the required oversight is evidence
that they DID use it for reasons not permitted by statute.

3. Rove is the scorpion in the tale of the Fox And The Scorpion
It's his nature, he has clearance, he cannot avoid his nature. He'll do it until he gets caught, which is ironically our best hope.

4. All those comparisons of the anti-war movement and the terrorists
All the accusations of "giving comfort to the enemy."

I think these things make it perfectly clear that they would consider anyone who opposed them a terrorist, and subject to the "terrist surveillance program."

5. The same people who spied on the Kings
are the same people that are saying that shrub has the inherent right to spy today, the major difference is back in the 60's there was no FISA court to stop them. Before the Nixon spying on americans came out, no one thought that a president would break the 4th amendment. Today we have the same people saying that GW has the right to spy, when there is no such right as FISA was put into place to make spying legal with warrants, and theres no reason 72 hours of wire taps before getting a court order would hinder the NSA spying. The only reasonable answer is shrub is not spying on Al-quida, he's spying on anyone and everyone that dis-agrees with him.

6. This is the reason they bypassed the FISA court.
It wasn't about "waiting in line" or "red tape" or "presidential power". It was about spying on political opponents, which would have been rejected by the FISA court.

9. The story of the FBI and the Quakers
doesn't make me tend to believe that they are only spying on al Qaeda.
