Of course many of the remarks were political, much as they were at Reagan's funeral. What a fitting tribute to both the Dr and his Mrs if Coretta's funeral in some way sparks a recognition that Bushco is what it is.

Bernice's eulogy. she talked a lot about very political issues. so there our answer to how appropriate the bahavior of the various speakers were. Case closed and tell snoopy, offended freepers to shut the hell up.No one elses' opinions matter.Even though many of her opinions were political in nature, they were stated in a very tasteful way. Hope King George could somehow be effected.

Do you think that any of the people in power gives a rat's ass? The only opinion they care about is the viewpoint of the lobbyist stuffing thousand dollar bills into their pocket.

were they inappropriate because the very same things Coretta Scott King fought for her whole life apply to the pResident? Were they inappropriate because Bush allowed what happened in N.O. to happen and we're suppose to act like it didn't happen? Were Lowry et al supposed to act like Coretta wasn't one of the Worlds Greatest Activists and that the woman wouldn't have approved the statements being made in honor!???
Bush needed to stay the hell away if he didn't want to hear the truth for the TRUTH WILL BE TOLD.Coretta would have it NO OTHER WAY!

go to the bottom five poll questions and look at those results. Frankly I'm at odds with many of you on this forum. While I did appreciate the general thrust of what was said, it's a funeral not a political rally. I think Clinton said it best when he talked about the human aspects of Mrs King. While we may view her as a symbol, she was a human being, and to bring up present day politics when we should honor her life, her accomplishments and the qualities about her that made the people around her love her, just didn't seem right. Ok, be angry at me......now!

You can think what you like, say what you like but the facts are that the Kings were some of the Greatest Activists that ever lived and the people that knew them best said what they said knowing in their hearts it was what Coretta and Martin would have wanted.
SHE spoke when nobody else would.Lowry,Carter and the others did the same thing. It was relevant because the very same things she fought against are still happening today.
Did Bush and the Republicans expect her friends to remain silent on the deadly serious issues happening in our world that Coretta fought against till she couldn't fight anymore just because it might upset the someone?
Coretta Scott King made a difference in the world and wasn't by towing the line that she did so.
They may have died but their legacy of truth telling will live on.Lowry et al made sure to honor them by saying things that needed to be said. They said things Coretta Scott King would have said herself. And for that I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

you have made an excellent point. As I read your comment I remembered the famous funeral of the boy who was murdered back in the days of Jim Crow and his mother had an open casket to show the world what had happened. Was she right in doing that? Yeah I think so. It was her child and I think it is safe to assume that her son would have approved. So really the best way to end this silly argument (the funeral is over) is to ask the relatives if they approved of what was said and if they thought it was an appropriate time. In the end who is a funeral for anyway? The dead don't care. If the family didn't find anything inappropriate then huzzah! Conversation over.
