I really think it was the "transformation experience" that scares the
GOP so much. So many - her daughter - all the leaders - talked about how her life could be a transformation experience - and we could all be better people if we internalized the lessons of her life. Which is the purpose of a funeral.

1. no, it was simply the fact that she was a widely admired liberal
they have to attack, they must attack, they must smear, they simply must, they no not what else to do.

they know that she's too widely admired and revered to smear directly (they would not hesitate if it would work, but they know it would backfire), so they smear the events around it, they tribute speeches, and so on.

they don't mind putting a revered liberal into the ground, just so long as she stays there.

the haters have to attack at the funeral of a peace lover, the have to divide in order to mourn a true uniter.

pathetic and laughable.

2. Actually you agree. "just so long as she stays in the ground" as you
said: "they don't mind putting a revered liberal into the ground, just so long as she stays there."

implies that they don't want the message of her life to be planted in the hearts of the people (family, followers, americans) who are left behind.

We agree more than you think.

3. I just wish it also didn't scare Democrats too

As a parallel, I remember watching the Wellstone funeral, and being more inspired than I have in years by an event.

So it was very discouraging to hear so many Democrats come out over the following days to apologize that the event was "too partisan" and political in response to the predictable GOP attacks.

Coretta King and Wellstone weren't symbols by saying: "Please sir, may I have some more gruel?"
