World Can't Wait--any comments or input? |
|
I went to the rally in DC last weekend. Haven't done anything like this since early 70s. It seemed to me that things are so bad now that it is time for mass public demonstrations, but . . .
the rally wasn't well-attended --and I think I know why, but I want to hear what DUers have to say about it.

Don't want to beat a dead horse if the topic was pounded to death before I showed up.
So was it the communist thing?

6. No not really, people said they were themselves disappointed |
|
in the rallies...etc. How some showed up for one reason - Anti war - then ended up being forced to listen to other people who discussed different kinds of unrelated topics...etc. So I decided not to go. Never heard anything about communist stuff.
Sounds like I am glad I did not go.
Welcome to DU BTW.

I got a free copy of Worker's World and a little fyer talking about communism.
Everyone seemed to like Granny D and the Georgetown Law Students...but didn't seem to pay much attention to anyone else.

11. I was on a bus surrounded by communists |
|
No shit. I was trying really hard to keep an open mind. Then one of my "comrades" handed me a copy of Bob Avakian's (the founder of the Revolutionary Communist Party) autobiography on the bus ride back, and the more I read, the more I realized this was not the group for me.
I kinda had an allergic reaction to their flavor of Kool-Aid!

14. I e-mailed World Can't Wait to get more info on it, and....... |
|
all I got back in return were pleas for donations. I e-mailed back, saying they did not answer my questions. Again, I got the same response. More pleas for donations. This really turned me off.
I told them to fuck off if they couldn't answer my simple questions.

This is when you discover the difference between water-proof . . . and "water-proofiness"
But, yeah, the crowd was estimated by the organizers at only around 1200. I took a bus from Chicago, and unless you were coming in from a short distance away, I don't think the weather should have made the difference in attendance.
I do have pics. None of myself, but I imagine DC police have the pics of me. Maybe I'll ask for copies. ;-)

I think the weather chased most people away. The crowd in front of the stage (where I was) was pretty sparse, but there were a lot of folks milling around. It was hard to tell definitely though because of the bleachers were the cameras were though. I walked around a bit and there were lots of folks back there.
I would guess 1500-2000 altogether.

|
among progressive circles let alone mainstream circles. I only found out about it maybe 2 weeks before.

9. You couldn't escape the announcements |
|
if you're an AAR listener! I listen all day via the net, and I swear they had a spot every 20 minutes. That's what got my attention.

I don't listen to AAR radio very much as it is not in my area and I'm not into the habit of streaming radio over the internet. I rely more on FSTV for my information.
