None of the usual SOTU bounce for Bush
by Joe in DC - 2/09/2006 10:31:00 AM

Via Pew, he's stuck at 40:
The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Feb. 1-5 among 1,502 Americans, finds that President Bush received no bounce from his Jan. 31 State of the Union address. Bush's approval rating stands at 40%, largely unchanged over the past month.
Explains why they are trying to scare Americans into liking him again.

Mr. Bush, NO, you can't have any... :bounce:

1. There's only so many times you can rehash the same speech...
before people start getting bored, if nothing else. To say nothing of what happens when they start to realize that no matter how many times you make the same noises, the country keeps getting worse, not better.

3. The only NEW item, the addiction to oil line, got withdrawn in 24 hours.
The rest was so tired, they were punch lines. Talking about curing the tone of politics again...as if we don't know he's the cause from the six years since he last used that line.

When the budget gets compared to the rhetoric, it's a net negative speech.

5. The irony of it all was, it was the BEST DELIVERED speech he has ever
presented. His delivery was damn near NORMAL, like a REAL person, who can read and think and express himself.

The problem was that the delivery consisted entirely, as you noted, of warmed-over crap. And you can't keep telling people that crap is wonderful, and after a bit of digging, even the dumbest kid realizes there ain't a pony under that pile!!!

2. I doubt the scare tactics will work this time around either....
Ask the little boy who cried "Wolf!"....after all, if the corrupt drunk's doing such a goshdarn swell job keeping America safe, how come there's a panic every few minutes?

6. I agree!
It's finally wearing off. The scare tactics don't work as well as they used to. What a relief that people are beginning to realize what has happened. :hi:

7. Like the first Republican president said...
"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time."

And after he said that, according to Abu Gonzalez, he went back to wiretapping his enemies....(snicker)

8. ELECTRONICALLY wiretapping!
George Washington did it too. Gonzo said so. (After all, Ben Franklin invented electricity.)

They WILL INDEED be wringing every drop out of their "keep 'em skeeeeered!" strategy, for all they're worth (which, I admit, isn't much!). We have to shove this back in their faces.

And this, too:

Report Says Number of Attacks by Insurgents in Iraq Increases
by James Glanz

WASHINGTON - Sweeping statistics on insurgent violence in Iraq that were declassified for a Senate hearing on Wednesday appear to portray a rebellion whose ability to mount attacks has steadily grown in the nearly three years since the invasion.

The statistics were included in a report written by Joseph A. Christoff, director of international affairs and trade at the Government Accountability Office, who testified before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee during a hearing on Iraq stabilization and reconstruction.

before or after. I guess the MSM got the memo to not bring it up.

19. First report I've seen on this
Usually, the overnight numbers after the State of the Whatever speech give the president a little bump in his approval ratings. This time around, it doesn't look like anyone was too anxious to find out how Chimpy went over with the Murkin people. Odd.

20. what is his usual SOTU bounce?
I heard that typically his number's have not faired well after any major speech he gives. Probably has something to do with the public being reminded at how crummy he is at public speaking!

21. I had been waiting for the usual polls to come out.
Isn't it interesting how the media did not seem to report anything, since the numbers were so negative!!

I knew his numbers would not go up.

Perfect example of the hyjacking of our media and the sham it has become.
