NY Mayor Bloomberg turns into a Democrat!
Just like we always suspected!

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/10/nyregion/10bloomberg.html?ex=1297227600&en=89bf753c4d9c36aa&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss

Witness:

Last week, Mr. Bloomberg donated $100 million to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, "anonymously," and stipulated that part of the money be used for stem cell research, which is anathema to the Republicans' core base of anti-abortion voters because human embryos are often destroyed in the process of gathering stem cells.

He used his inaugural address to declare war on illegal guns by calling for new gun control laws and took a swipe at a group that supports his party nationally, the National Rifle Association.

He has taken on Gov. George E. Pataki, a fellow Republican, on financing for New York City schools and has moved to muscle his way into the rebuilding of ground zero, one of the governor's major initiatives.

And, in perhaps his most telling salvo, this week his aides said that he was considering supporting a Democratic challenger against one of the State Senate's longest-standing Republican lions, Serphin R. Maltese of Queens, this fall. Such a move would be an affront to the majority leader of the Senate, Joseph L. Bruno, whose Republicans hold control of the chamber by a thin margin.

3. Yes, that's what this guy says:
The developments are prompting "told you so's" from Thomas V. Ognibene, the former City Council Republican leader, who tried to force the mayor into a Republican primary last year but could not muster enough support to do so. Clearly, he said, with his re-election behind him, the mayor no longer needs the party the way he once did.

"The mayor never was a Republican, he always was a liberal Democrat," Mr. Ognibene said yesterday. "That was my argument all last year and nobody paid attention."

6. Bloomberg is a Democrat.
NYC politics is unique to NYC. There are no actual Republicans. Even that asshat guliani is politically mostly a democrat, a conservative asshat democrat, but a democrat. But Bloomberg was an official Democrat who had to go be a Republican because he couldn't win the primary to get into the mayoral race any other way.

9. On some issues he is more to the left than me
His nanny state views on smoking and guns put him well to the left of me.

10. No, Bloomberg is a republican at heart. He fired someone for
having a solitaire game on his computer notwithstanding the fact that the city employee had finished his duties and had no prior complaint regarding his work.
