Virginia Dems have a challenger for George Allen !
James Webb, from the Reagan admin, Sec of Navy! This should be fun :patriot:

Webb For Senate
http://www.webbforsenate.com/

From the website:

We are living in a time of divisiveness and frequent confusion in this country. I, like many others, have become deeply troubled by the tone of debate in our political circles, and by the lack of true substance in the debates themselves. I would like to change that.

During the coming months I intend to focus on four major themes.

Refocusing America's foreign and defense policies in a way that truly protects our national interests and seeks harmony where they are not threatened.

Repairing the country's basic infrastructure, which has eroded badly over the past decade, and developing more creative ways to assist disaster-stricken areas such as those in New Orleans and along the Gulf coast.

Reinstituting notions of true fairness in American society, including issues of race, class, and economic advantage; and

Restoring the Constitutional role of the Congress as an equal partner, reining in the unbridled power of the Presidency.

I look forward to exploring each of these issues in depth between now and November. If you share my concerns and my priorities, please help us out.

1. Hurray! As a VA Dem I'm delighted to have somebody with
the "magic" Reagan connection (lots of GOPpers in VA) and Defense cred, but actually capable of clear thinking too! I hope he wipes "make my day" Allen off the electoral map.

Virginia even named a major airport after RR, heh, heh, heh.

I believe he will have to survive primaries though, see:

25. Excellent! Dems competing - they must think Allen is vulnerable.
2006 is gonna be a sad year for the GOP.

8. He served in the Reagan Administration as Secretary of Navy
but he has broken away from the neocons and Xtian Jihadists that have taken over the GOP. His break became total when he opposed the rush to war in Iraq.

Webb is a Murtha-style Democrat now!

Anything is better that Allen!

3. Webb is a highly decorated veteran
and a true blue Goldwater-style conservative that believes in the Constitution and the rule of law, unlike the conservatives of today that want to establish a Christian Jihadist dictatorship.

6. While
It would be a dream come true to win this seat, I think that is almost secondary. If Webb can really rough him up I can see Allen losing a lot of appeal for his Presidential run

9. Exactly.....
My dream already came true that Allen will not run unopposed, which makes Virginia look like a bunch of wusses.

Of course, we now have to deal with the swiftboaters ...sigh...and the Virginia DLC who wants Harris Miller to lead the challenge. Well, as of a month ago:

12. yes I believe he's one of the Band of Brothers isn't he?
There were so many that appeared and each spoke broadcasting on C-Span the other day - might even be available on C-Span website or rebroadcast on C-span. I suggest looking for "Band of Brothers press conference" referenced in the title. or Democratic party Military Vets running for office in search key.

13. It sure would be great to scratch Allen's name off the
potential presidents list.

Four to eight years of listening to that fool would be asking a lot after 8 years of Dubya.

14. Allen beat Chuck Robb for the Senate....
...and I think solely that Robb had an extramarital ooopsie? Otherwise, I don't think Allen deserves 6 more years. He's been a crappy party over the people rep for Virginia in other ways too.

15. We are in strong agreement on Allen. I'd love to see him voted out in
06. There's a bit of the bully in his personality. I've kinda had enough of GOP bullying.

17. That's what lost the Gov campaign for Kilgore (v.Kaine)
To tell you the truth, I think voters were sending a message "we're sick of dirty politics"...and Kaine rose above the smears. As much as he's been bashed on DU, which breaks my heart, Kaine is better than a Kilgore and all that GOP Baggage :)

18. If Allen can be beaten, he gets tainted as a loser
and loses some of whatever lustre he might have, as a presidential candidate ("He couldn't even win in his own state")

...a serious Allen challenge could bring up some serious weaknesses too :hi:
