An Idea To Enhance DU.....
I notice that when I find a post that should be nominated to the 'Greatest' and vote for it - that due to the fact that DU is extremely busy - sometimes nominated posts find their way down the list and never get seen or read by others. I'm wondering if DU can modify the postings so that after the words "Discussion started Sat Feb-11-06 10:33 AM by Windy" that DU could add the following:

(see below)

General Discussion
Petrodollars/Nuclear Weapons Proliferation: Planned War with Iran
Discussion started Sat Feb-11-06 10:33 AM by Windy G (2)

The addition of G (2) would show other DU'ers that this post has already gotten 2 votes for the "Greatest" page. It would indicate that some other DU'ers thought that this post was worthy of being read by all.

I think this would be a great addition to DU in that some great posts never make it to the "Greatest" page because DU'ers may overlook reading it because the Subject Line is not descriptive enough or doesn't seem interesting to the reader. When this happens some real good info might get overlooked.

Having something like I suggested above would indicate to a DU'er that - maybe they should take a look at this post.

What do you think? Would this be a good idea? Would it even be possible to program something like this into DU?

1. *Kick* is my friend :)
Speaking for myself, when I'm passionate about a subject/topic (not always my own, heh), I respond to it relentlessly.

Have you contacted the DU Admin with your suggestion? I know they can explain the program better than I can :hi:

2. Here's a solution...
...donate to DU. :hi:

I think this might be why you cannot see the "Votes" column next to the "Replies" column in the group article listing. (The feature disappears when the admins raise the DU "level" during massive traffic, but it is there.)

Maybe an admin can confirm?

3. As a loyal DU'er can I make the added suggestion
there should be a archive of the Greatest, I see a great posting, then it's gone and
I can't find it, was it posted in the lobby, general discussion, political discussion
general or latest breaking news? I have spent a great deal of time searching, not
always effectively and maybe some of the blame is mine, but an archive just for the
greatest would help.

4. Interesting idea...I wonder if they could add a "greatest" category to the
search function? That might also achieve what you want, because it would make searching easier.

5. yes, that could work
but I don't see how because, something is no longer on the Greatest Page after a day.
You can't bookmark everything, I don't want to slow the board down any more than it is.

7. I've often thought that too.
If I go away for a few days, I'd like to be able catch up on what greatest page articles I missed. There's no way in the world to catch up on everything and that would be a way to catch up on the most important things.

8. it would also allow you to see different postings
that refer to the same subject, say on Al Gore"s speech on wiretapping you might see 6 postings all with different sources, it might come in handy the next time you meet a Gore basher.

6. Don't we already have that?
It says how many votes there are for the greatest page in the far right column.
