With the complicity of the 'liberal' media, the hit and run tactics of the Punks usually stick pretty well, despite usually being utter bullshit. The sad part is that they can use just about any meme and be effective because of their ability to saturate the airwaves with it. Mehlman could say 'Democrats have funny kneecaps...' and before long, Poultry, Shammity, Limpbag, O'Shutup and all the other reich-wing air wasters would be repeating it ad nauseum.

Based on what knowledge of me? What is your deal? You don't see the down side of being labeled and packed off to obscurity? There is nothing wrong with us being angry, as we should feel justified by the actions of this den of thieves in Washington. We should, however, be very vocal about the assertion that we are defined by that anger. That is part of WHAT we are, but does not entirely define WHO we are.

Anger is good. The reason the GOP is whining about it is because they have NO ANSWERS TO REAL ISSUES. If they keep up their current horseshit and name-calling, it'll come back to bite them in the ass.
You need to worry a bit less. Maybe be a bit more proactive, rather than looking for trouble when there is none there.

Every time they mention we seem angry...counter it with ,"Damn right I'm angry!" and here's why. Then rattle off a list of talking points of WHY the hell we are indeed ANGRY! It will give us a much needed opportunity to discuss WHY we're angry. I say go for it! I admit it. I'm angry! How about you?

I could see this being used as rebuttal in civil discourse, but not on the National level.
The trouble is that we have little opportunity to 'rattle off' that list. We seldom have more than a sound bite's worth of time to rebut. Instead of playing defense, I think we should develop our own offense to make them spend their time deflecting legitimate criticisms. Lord knows we have a warehouse full of amunition.

Or... "wouldn't YOU be angry, too, if you were lied to like this? I bet you were angry when Clinton lied about cheating on his wife (or - ...lied about sex), weren't you?"

59. I guess I was flip because I don't have much tolerance for Fox's |
|
manufactured outrage(s) - - like The War on Christmas.
My frame for discussing this kind of thing is to deride them, as in "Dang, don't they get tired with all that being outraged about every little thing?"
That frame makes Sean Hannity sound like the sissy-pants boy he is. His constant state of outrage makes your average fictional hysterical woman seem like a Buddhist Monk by comparison.
And by extension, it makes anybody who buys into his hysterical vapors seem just as silly. Otherwise they'd flip the channel.
If they can deride John Kerry for sailboarding, and get traction with it, then we can deride them for being silly, hystercal, nosy, whining, complaining and blaming busybodies. You know . . . Gladys Kravitz. :)
Did I leave anything out? Oh, yeah. Remember when the right wing used to complain about Political Correctness? Well how come now they get their panties in a Frist when Hilary Clinton describes the House of Reps as being run like a plantation? Gasp!
In my mind, I see them as giggling little school kids whispering "She said 'Doody'"
BTW, if it sounds like I watch Fox, I don't because Stephanie MIller does it for me. :) She pulls the best/ worst stuff out for her Right Wing World every morning.

Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 11:42 AM by calimary
I call him the-guy-whose-name-rhymes-with-VANITY - if I do happen to see his smug mug on TV (which isn't very often - I don't patronize businesses like Pox "news" - I holler at him - "oh, boo-hoo, you're just SO VICTIMIZED, sean! You're so TERRIBLY, HORRIBLY AGRIEVED!" And then I play my itty-bitty finger violin to show how greatly I pity him. Now who's the angry one, sean?
I've read more than once - intriguing (and I think spot-on) analysis that points out how these people - THESE people - now have it all. They have the White House. They have the House of Reps. They have the Senate. They have the judiciary. They have the media. They have, I think, a majority of the statehouses. And yet, look at them constantly complaining about how agrieved and victimized and persecuted and disadvantaged and put-upon they are, and frantically groping for boogey-men on which to fix the blame!!! Do you remember when bill frist went to survey the damage and devastation after the tsunami over last New Year's - and what he said in reaction? "There's no one to blame!" He was like a Little Boy Lost. "No one to blame." Certainly couldn't peg THAT one on Dems or liberals now, could ya, bill? As has been said here before - "wow. Just wow."

Then launch into a laundry list of what the Administration and the GOP are doing to piss people off: high gas prices, high heating costs, the lack of health coverage, the lack of assistance for Katrina victims -- the list, of course, is almost endless at this juncture.
Let's face it. MORE Americans are angry these days than are happy with the status quo -- let's make that work FOR US, not AGAINST US!
Edited to add: "The utter corruption going on with the GOP." Mention how THAT'S REALLY got honest, hardworking Americans pissed-off.

were in grassroots volunteering for the very first time, and they deserved to hear his enthusiasm. Shame on the "liberal" media for ridiculing Dr. Dean, but even more for ridiculing the people -- many of them teenagers -- who gave their hearts and souls to that effort. Those Dean supporters -- or supporters of any of the candidates for that matter -- were becoming part of the nation's political process and represent citizenship at its highest. For the media to participate in their ridicule is unforgivable.
You may be right about some media rendering Dems' objections to the administration's deceptions as "angry" because it paints the Dems as one-dimensional, excitable, short-sighted, short-fused, and dismissable.
I could definitely see FOX and perhaps other networks playing this card. I would hate it, but I agree that it could be happening. The media have a lot to answer for about the 2000 election, and about Iraq, etc.

after all, why would some people want freedom of speech on DU? so they can smear another poster with innuendo? and accusation?
as in
"You use a lot of their talking points..."
well there is a finite number of words in human language to express certain situations, and believe it or not, differing groups of people can use the same words without them being used as talking points.
or is your contention that anyone who watches/associates with FOX automatically your enemy?
How about....Wes Clark? I hear he is on FOX these days.

62. As far as I am concerned, |
|
the entire Dem party is not angry enough.
WHy shouldn't they be angry? Their function as a deliberative body had been eliminated by the GOP takeover of COngress. They are shut out of meetings, given five minutes to look over a budget before it is passed and they are slapped in public for any effort to actually do their job.
They should be screaming from the rooftops. This idea that you can't be angry to participate in politics is one floated by the party that has to control their image as the party of reason as they rape and pillage our economy and our constitution.
I will vote for any Dem with the guts to speak up. I am waiting for the day when one of them is angry enough to fight.

68. There was a thread within the last week that |
|
basically pointed out that yes I am angry.
I am angry that they stole two elections I am angry that they allowed 911 to happen. I am angry that they lied about WMD's to invade a sovereign nation. I am angry about the pathetic response to Katrina. I am angry about the attacks on our civil rights.
If you are not angry you haven't been paying attention.
I wish I could find the thread because it put this much more eloquently than I have. In essence we need to point out that our anger is righteous and that anyone not angry is a kool-aid drinking moran.
