Sheeler Riddle Me This
Hi all from DU,

We have had interesting traffic at our website. I read the reports almost daily. The part that confounds me is the geographic areas of the visitors. The top 9 cities are listed below:

1 Chantilly, Virginia, United States 4,152
2 Providence, Rhode Island, United States 2,241
3 Marina Del Rey, California, United States 2,045
4 San Mateo, California, United States 622
5 Redmond, Washington, United States 575
6 Mountain View, California, United States 331
7 Boston, Massachusetts, United States 316
8 Washington, D.C., United States 223
9 New York, New York, United States 209

Some make sense because of sheer population, but others....? Any one want to hazard a guess.

Also, what do we need to do to increase visits from RI voters? It would be nice to tap into the various meet up groups that were first formed to support Dens (DFA) and the new ones that clearly support Democratic and Progressive agendas. Your input would be appreciated.

Take care,

carl

1. Could be search engines spidering you...
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 08:32 AM by Dunvegan
...one would have to corrolate the known search engines against the IP addresses hitting your site.

I work in information security as a consultant, so I don't like to hazard uninformed guesses.

One certain thing you can do to draw more traffic from Rhode Is. to your site it to tweak your metatags to include words of interest to your constituents.

You metatags might include your state, "sheeler", the opponent's last name, and any words that describe hot-button local issue...these are just for example.

I support Carl and hope you keep us DUers up-to-date on the run...if you'd like any further information regarding the website metatags, you're welcome to e-mail me.

And remember, Google is your friend...(at least for now)...you'll want to invite being spidered and indexed by the search engines via your robots.txt file.

3. Excellent comments
I'm going to forward to my web folks. They're volunteers, so it might take a day or two. Thanks for your support. Please share any other advice that'll increase traffic to the site by folks interested in supporting a solid, counter puncher with progressive views. : )

5. Chantilly Virgina ???
Too funny. . .As sort of a cyber ninnie I would just hazard a guess that something about your surname resembles some emporium in Virginia and Marina del Rey and you may have gotten google bombed.

As for the others, I received about five different e-mails about you having entered the race and none of them were from Rhode Islanders. . .people talk ya know. . .?

So much for a mere dusting. . .eh ?

7. Hey StellaNoir
You seem knowledgeable about RI and her politics. 'splain this to me. I have attended dozens if not near 100 different functions for the type of folks the Democratic Party claims to want to include as supporters. BUt I have NEVER seen the General Assembly Speaker or Senate President at any of them. I have seen David Cicilline, mayor of Providence, at most.

Last night, as an example, there must have been at least 400 attendees at the Black Heritage Foundation annual awards and other than Harold Metts and David and Matt Brown crashing the black tie affair looking ridiculous in a sport coat and staying for about 15 minutes, there was no other state or federal representative that I could see. This seems such a "dis" to this prominent minority community. Am I missing something?

Yep, it's always about half again more snow fall in my part of this bitty state.

9. Welp
Can't really 'splain that to you. If I was to venture a guess it could just be a "so many functions. . . so little time" sort of scenario. Some may also feel so over confident in the security of their positions that they don't need to be attentive but that of course is a total fallacy.

You must be in the Northwest corner then. Down here on the Southeast coast we typically get a third less snow or so. It's blowing like crazy though. We have a six foot drift blocking the front door. Yikes. Thank goodness we have a back door as well that is sheltered by a roofed porch or we'd be trapped.

You are no fun. Though your billboard totally is as such. Can't wait to drive past it but not in this weather.

Probably will be in "Providencia" tomorrow afternoon. Let me know if you've any time available. Otherwise we'll catch up soon. Am usually up there once a week or so.

& best,
stella

8. Yes Bryant has a small weekly
A leader of the Bryant Dem Party is a student of mine in my Finance class and I have to endeavor to keep arms length the relationship, so I do not talk politics with him. This is a relatively new development ofr Bruant. Remember a lot of young business folks tend to orient towards the GOP. It's refreshing when they don't!

10. We need to get Aquidneck Island going!
Lot's of Democrats there. That's where I'm from. Also, tap into URI, CCRI, Roger Williams (I think that's the name), Providence College, Brown, and Salve Regina College. Lot's of Liberal activists there (well, maybe not at Salve). Also, appeal to the environmental vote. Lot's of environmentalists in little Rhody.

13. Excellent suggestions. We're moving on these fronts, but...
.... few hours, few bodies and too many avenues. We have reached out to College Dems and tried the activist groups at several of the campuses. Often disorganized or can't see the interplay with parallel agendas. Each group is often splintered and often poorly attended with little effort to increase awareness to other than like minded parties. These are the infrastructure issues that plague the party and VERY frustrating.

Very unorganized here in Oklahoma too. Still, I like what you are doing. Keep it up. I intend to send your web site to friends/relatives back home. If I visit this summer, I'll put out some yard signs for you.
