I'm surprised McCain came in second with these loons. Allen is one the Dems would do well to start anticipating as being on the top or bottom of the ticket in '08.

I just heard from the marvelous Stacie Rumenap (who makes CPAC run) that Sen. George Allen (R.-Va.) won this year’s CPAC straw poll. I don’t have the complete results at this point, but as soon as I get them, I will post.
Allen received 22% of the vote, topping his Republican colleague, Sen. John McCain, who had 20%. Others finished in the single digits.
As for Democrats, an overwhelming 62% picked Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.) as the most likely contender.
Other news from the poll: Respondents were unhappy with government spending, but approve of President Bush’s handling of the war.
Allen finished tied for third last year with 11%. Here are the results from last year’s CPAC straw poll (courtesy of Patrick Ruffini’s post from a year ago):
19% Giuliani
18% Rice
11% Allen, Frist, McCain
4% Owens, Romney, Santorum
5% Gingrich
2% Pataki
1% Hagel, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Santorum
0% Barbour
