The New Orleans Mayors Race-What do you think
The NEw Orleans Mayors race is coming up. I have a couple of weeks off coming up in March and I am thinking of going down to volunteer. Here is a pretty good article on it http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/frontpage/index.ssf?/base/news-5/1139731591155110.xml

I have become frustrated beyond words with Nagin. He is no longer an option for me. This is tough because I have been one of Nagins defenders in the past. It seems the choice is between Landrieu or Forman for me. I know Landriu better but I think maybe continuing this Dynasty is a bad idea. Tough call. I have met Forman twice and he seems to be what NOLA needs. But I havent decided yet.

1. But continuing the Bush Dynasty is a good idea?
Mitch Landrieu is a good fellow, I like the Landrieu's they're damn good people and they've done a lot of good things.

2. Of course
continuing the Bush Dynasty is a bad idea. I like Mitch more than Mary on apersonal level but there good people. I agree. I just think we might need a fresh break. Some new ideas plus public relations wise I think it would look good to the Nation which this town sorely needs. I am so depressed now adays when I read stories about New Orleans. Its all bad and it makes me so mad. But life isnt fair I suppose.

7. You have a point there
I think Mitch is the favorite among the democrat establishment. It should be something to watch. But again I am concerned about how we are looking toward the rest of the country. Lets face it most think we are a bunch or inept corrupt fools. Does New Orleans having a mayor that is the Senators Brother help that? Lets face it we are going to be at the mercy of the COngress for years.

8. Also as to Mitch Landrieus future
He def is needed for our States future. I would prefer he stay where he was to be honest. I suspect unfort that something might happen to William Jefferson. Mitch would be perfect to run for that. More importantly once the Census comes out and New Orleans loses that congressional seat he could garner enough support to keep it in democrat hands even after the census changes

6. So true
I cant blame Nagin for alot of stuff. ALot of this in my view goes back to Moriel when he was mayor buts thats a whole different story. In fact to be honest the evacuation in NOLA was better than any other but Nagin and Blanco wont get any credit for that. Nagin just seems to have a problem with talking without engaging his brain first. He is a good man but is turning out to be a real problem

5. well it changes things
How I dont know. The only Repub I know that is running is Peggy Wilson. But I cant imagine alot of Republicans supporting her. Some of my Repub friends find her crazy. The black vote I dont think would go to Nagin anyway. Despite his "chocalte" city comments I feel there is rage toward him in the african american community. I think most of that vote would go to Landrieu if they can be found. But this is the thing. I dont think it will. Unless the LA democrats with their Texas counter parts have a good get out the vote campaign and organization in places like Dallas and HOuston it wont make much difference.

9. I hate to lose Mitch as Lt. Governor
because I think Kathleen needs him, but maybe he will be just as helpful rowing the New Orleans pirogue. I think the shots of him rescuing people in NOLA will elect him. Honest, he's a shoo-in.

10. Mitch should be running for Governor, not Mayor
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 06:12 PM by Hippo_Tron
Blanco has a long road to political recovery and she might not make it. Mitch would be a great person to step up. I hate the idea of turning to Charlie Foti as the last resort for the dems.

11. Would a Nagin loss help Bush?
I'd hate for this to turn into an "I told ya so" by BushCo with "the people have spoken, Katrina was Nagin's fault" ?

I like Nagin, but what kind of Mayor was he before Katrina? Under the circumstances of a devasting natural disaster, he did the best he could with the resources he had.

12. NOLA needs a leader
The only question in this instance is who can get the city built the way it should be. Nothing else matters. From a complete outsider, I'd say Mitch Landrieu. Just reading that one article on that Forman guy, he sounds like a bigger player than Nagin or Landrieu and would be the last person I'd support. But I don't live there so what do I know. Wish you guys the best though.
