Democrats Want Hackett To Run For House Seat, Not Senate
Democrats want Hackett to run against Schmidt again, and he should beat her as she's made a fool of herself.

leaving the Senate race to a liberal Democrat, Sherrod Brown.

http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/13856810.htm

WASHINGTON - National Democrats are turning up the pressure on Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett, openly asking him to leave his campaign for U.S. Senate and take a second shot at a Cincinnati-area House seat that he nearly won last summer.

Democrats have privately suggested for some time that Hackett, who has a national Internet following but faces the more experienced Rep. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, in a Senate primary, would be better off running again for the House seat held by GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt. Democrats acknowledge their chances of winning a district that voted 64 percent for President Bush in 2004 are slim without Hackett.

"This isn't talking behind the scenes; I'm saying it publicly. ... I'm petitioning Paul Hackett to run for Congress," Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Sunday.

Hackett declined comment Sunday, but has frequently said he's in the Senate race to stay...

1. Regretfully, Maj. Hackett should consider it.Sherrod has outraised him X10
Nobody wants to see a primary bloodbath.

Not when the only one to benefit from it is Mean Jean Schmidt.

7. And that is because Schumer and the DSCC have siphoned
away donations and have asked Hackettto step down. They are backing their pet. I want to know who made them God? Brown should saty in congress. Hackett should go to the Senate and be supported. The Dscc has zero respect for their base and they have proven it once again.

9. Absolutely false. Brown has a war chest. He's not outraising Hackett X10
Hackett, who doesn't have nearly the name recognition in Ohio yet that Brown has is raising nearly as much.

But what the hey.. It's OHIO we're talking about!

From what I've read on the on-line media.. the scuzbag "Blackwell" is favored as the next Governor in their polls!!!

Why Ohio??? WHY BLACKWELL !?!?!?!?!

26. As far as money on hand...Sherrod has him creamed ($2.4 mil in the bank)
Maj Hackett has only $200K.

Maybe they've raised an equal amount during this last reporting period.

Let Blackwell win that GOP primary then Bring Him On. Ted Strickland will slaughter him...if the votes are, perchance, actually counted.

2. Rahm Emmanuel is head of the effort to recruit excellent candidates for
the House of Representatives. He would love to see Hackett run ofr the house. I think Hackett is man enough to decide for himself and I'll support him either way.

Rahm's just doing his job.

3. And it's smart
Why have these two great candidates fighting each other instead of fighting two Repugs?

8. Nothing wrong with a party primary. Let the people of Ohio decide who
they want. I fail to see how the fact that Rahm Emanuel recognizes an excellent possibility for a house pickup as an insult to Hackett.

12. Hackett was in the race first and Brown only became interested when
Hackett made the race viable. Brown wanted to take advantage of the momentum Hackett started. Why don't they just find someoneelse to run against Schmidt? It seems the DSCC doesn't like people to decide to run on their own without being given the "nod" by the powers that be. Hackett was never given the nod ergo it is thought he should either drop out or step "down"' to the Congressional race. I want to know what makes Sherrod Brown so much better a Senate candidate? Other than Schumer is funneling him money?

23. But he needed the nod from Schumer who wants Brown! Reid isn't the
DSCC Chair and isn't parceling out the moola and linking up the donors.

Your anger at a good Democrat like Sherrod Brown seems so misplaced. Why not let the voters of Ohio decide? Donate to whomever you like but supporting one Democrat doesn't mean you must hate his opponent. I certainly don't believe Hackett feels that way. He has too much integrity.

22. I don't hate Brown. What gave you that idea?
I just don't like the preferential treatment Schumer is giving him. Sherrod Brown appears to be a great guy. But I still think it makes more sense for him to stay in the House!

4. I think that's great idea...
for the very reason you mentioned. Not only that, I firmly believe our first priority should be to win the House and then the Senate. Because if we win the House, then impeachment can begin. And yes, I would love to see a conviction, but even with out it, it will still stain his presidency and even perhaps miracles or miracles...wipe that Godamn asshole smirk off of his fuckin' face!

10. This whole
Ohio recruiting has been a mess in my opinion. It was sloppy from the start and it is sloppy now. Don't get me wrong, they will both be great candidates. But, somebody needs to stay in this thing because we are looking terrible

If they even know about him in Southern OH, they detest him (even though he's extremely pro-labor).

24. That's the proper handicapping
Brown is too liberal to win a statewide race in Ohio. That state still defaults 2-3 points Republican compared to the nation as a whole. We had a rare chance to steal it last year due to a lousy state economy but there are no demographic swings in our direction like in Virginia or Colorado.

Hackett would have a much better chance against an incumbent in that state. Again, apply the proper perspective. It's ousting an incumbent so you need a dynamic personality who can arouse interest and steal from the middle and perhaps the top layer of the other side. It's a Republican state so you can't nominate the more progressive candidate. Are we trying to win or just appease someone?

be in the race. The other ones can just STF down!

Winning is everything.....in 2006!

Hackett would gain plenty of votes from that issue alone.

25. All the more reason to run strong candidates.
The more people who say "I can't believe this clown won," the more likely people will be willing to face facts.
