The Dems. are afraid to speak up about the DSMs because many of them voted for the war (not knowing the WH got their "intel" from people like Chalabi and Curveball). Now the Dems. are afraid to strongly challenge Bush on the WARRANTLESS wiretaps because it will make them look "soft on terror" according to some of them. Why can't they speak up and out against this administration and EXPLAIN why the DSMs show Bush LIED when he said he'd only go to war as a last resort? Why can't they EXPLAIN that we ALL want to wiretap the TERRORISTS but we DON'T want Bush to be allowed to wiretap any of US??? They truly need a spine!

|
say that the americans don't give a shit and they keep framing it as Dems are against wire tapping, not Dems are against illegal spying on inocents.

3. could be because we need some REAL progressive Democrats |

why not tell them so in the primaries? IF we wanted Republicans for our reps we would have elected Republicans. GROW a spine At least act like a Democrat.

10. Woodrow Wilson was a "progressive democrat" |
|
and he used the expionage act to jail Americans. This act is very much like our Partiot act in its language and application. Bot targeted liberal dissentors and we never used for what they were "designed" to do.
Considering the history of spying Americans, I wonder if Democrats only offer up token dissent on this subject?
McCarthyism was another embarassing era which targets communists. THey also went after liberals and socialists as well.
I doubt this this issue is one you can confront inside the party as it is a problem of power.

11. Wilson had a real war and was disciplined for his acts. |
|
McCarthy was a paranoid power drunk fool. The Senate should have stopped him in his tracks.
Seeing as how the Republican party is empowering and assisting the current illegal Unconstitutional power grab by the FASCIST thugs; We have to confront this power grab starting with our party and any true patriot is welcome to put country ahead of party.

4. There is a problem in who they label....... |
|
a terrorist. That's why this discussion: "Why can't they EXPLAIN that we ALL want to wiretap the TERRORISTS but we DON'T want Bush to be allowed to wiretap any of US??? They truly need a spine!"
Will never take place. The right wing noise machine will paint anyone who doesnt agree with their agenda as a terrorist. They OWN the fucking media and will paint it anyway their heart desires!!!!!
If you like to eat cookies and talk peace.......you are a terrorist.
You dissagree with Bush's wire taps.........you are in with the Jihadists!!!!
Quite frankly the war on terror is a hoax. I doubt Democrats will comeout and admit that you are more likely to be killed by a TV set falling out of a window than at the hands of a Jihadist.

We only use this program for al Qaeda terrorists. We can't even use this on Hezbollah (he said).

7. Uh, it's been reported that they've used it on quite a few people. |
|
Millions I've heard (correct me if i'm wrong though). I don't think Al Qaeda has millions of operatives in the U.S.

It's been used on several thousands of innocent people. GONZALES says it's only used on AL QAEDA which of course I don't believe.

12. Dem leaders are not afraid, spineless, or scared |
|
Fear and lack of spine do not explain dem behavior of last five years....too many easy and obvious winning hands have been folded and too many opportunities wasted in every policy area.
No, it's worse than fear or weakness: they pull their punches because they run in the same circles as those who want to expand empire and concentrate wealth and power. That's the way I see it. Besides, you don't make it to Congress without a certain amount of built-in smarts, gall, ambition, ego, and spine. I'd wager most in Congress have plenty of each.
It must be difficult for them, this balancing act. They have to appear to be doing all they can...they have to act like the opposition party... but at the same time they can't take full advantage of the obvious opportunities to upset the apple cart. And there are so, so many misdeeds and issues that true opposition leaders could exploit, if they wanted.
Would Alan Colmes come to work one day and completely discredit Hannity on air and bring the show to a screeching halt? Nope. Same with dems and pugs. Dems have everything they need to expose this administration for what it is. Most of the world knows what is going on, too. But you won't see an all out effort to bring this corrupt, dishonest, power hungry administration down, even though it would be best for the public, because there are too many in politics who have a stake in the game. We need more in congress who don't have a stake in the game.
Sorry. This has been said many times, but whenever a "get-a-spine" post comes up, I feel compelled.
