Should we encourage Hackett to run as a Greenie? |
|
Why the heck not?
I don't think this guy should be silenced as he is an important voice. I think keeping him in the spotlight and getting him into office on another ticket will allow him to pressure the Dems more effectivly. This is one of those instances where we can change this party from the outside as well.
Thoughts?

How do you expect to put a stop to the neo con agenda when the Dems refuse to allow outspoken critics to run? Bush isnt running in 08 nor is he running in 06.
I can't vote for Hackett as I live in MA. I do think if you want to change this party you need to work outside and inside the party at the same time.

But the reality is.. There is a lot of money inside... A lot of people inside... You really need to get inside in order to make a difference...
It's just the way the game is played....

Labor won by fighting from the outside.
Minorities won by fighting from the outside.
Women won by fighting from the outside.
Working inside a corrupt system rarely changed anything. None of those fights I mentioned above were won by trying to win elections only. Except for labor who elected their own candidates in their own party.
You can't fix a corrupt game by playing it.

9. His statements sound like a guy |
|
who has no interest in staying with party. He said he felt "betrayed".
Where do people go that have no interest in either party and feel like they've been slapped in the face? Dissaffected Democrats might vote Republican just rub the Dems noses in the mud.
That did happen in 2000 in Florida. Where does a guy like Hackett go?
Perhaps he offers a much need critisism of our Democracy that neither party is willing to offer. In that respect I say it's worth it.
The one thing that has gone awry in American politics is too many are now willing to put party over issue. He is a great anti war voice!!!!
It's up to the people of Ohio though. I cant do anything for the guy as I cant vote for him anyways. I do think you need people on the outside to fix this Dem party.

10. Politics = Stunning Realization of Imperfect People |
|
Paul Hackett is just beginning to realize how imperfect every human being is, even at the highest levels. It's a complete shock when you first find out that some people at the highest levels aren't all that much smarter than the local Chamber President, and can be just as catty and backstabbing as the people running the high school Booster Club. I hope he muscles through it, because we really need his voice.

He has no chance of winning the seat as a Green. If he has enough support to win the election, then he has enough support to win the Democratic primary.
For him to run in the general election against the Democratic nominee would do nothing but split the votes of the people who want to retire DeWine.
