John Kerry: Economy Faltering Under Bush
John Kerry: Economy Faltering Under Bush
February 14th, 2006 @ 9:22 am

Speaking at a breakfast meeting of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce in Quincy, MA on Monday, John Kerry told the group that “the Bush administration is as slow to respond to a host of pressing demands on the nation’s economy as it was in responding to Hurricane Katrina last year.”

“Katrina underscores lack of preparation, unpreparedness, despite all the warnings,’’ Kerry told a group gathered at the Quincy Marriott Hotel. ‘‘Katrina stripped away the confidence, the veneer that had cloaked this administration for a period of time, and people began to see a whole series of choices that have been wrong.’’

{snip}
But Kerry said the federal government must do its part to help businesses overcome obstacles to competing in the global economy - such as rising healthcare and energy costs, and lagging investments in education and research and development.

{snip}
Kerry called for focusing on new technologies and alternative fuels to reduce the nation’s oil dependence and create new jobs. His proposal includes tax incentives for automakers to produce more fuel-efficient cars and for consumers to buy them, and developing energy alternatives such as bio-fuels and wind energy.

1.  The Chamber of Commerce is filled with Repubs - I hope they wake up
and smell the fascism.

Good on Kerry for saying hard truths in front of an audience that probably was conditioned against his positions.

3. I think the CoC
in some areas is more liberal than others. Here in L.A. there are amny more liberal members with a great distaste for Bush. Most likely it's similar in MA. On a whole they need to wake up!

4. Economy Faltering, eh?
"rapidly being destroyed" or something along those lines might capture the attention of the working class... but "faltering"??

hmm, not so much.

5. He wasn't speaking to the "working class" ,
but to the chamber of commerce! It's great that he is saying the same thing (in terms of the problems) that he has to other groups.

6. It took guts to speak the truth to a bunch of money men interested
in amassing more of the same.
