Hillary IS right!
Cuts in funding necessary services to the middle-class and poor + Making a tax break for only the top 3% "permanent" = Far fewer Rethuglicans in DC after November, if we spread the word.

From: Hillary Rodham Clinton
Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 11:25 AM

Dear Friend,

Once again, the message is "you are on your own."

President Bush's budget calls for taking the $255 Social Security death benefit away from people who have just lost a loved one and cutting off the monthly Social Security survivor benefits of 16 and 17-year olds if they're no longer in school.

George W. Bush wants to produce Social Security "savings" over the next decade at the expense of widows and orphans, even as he lavishes trillions of dollars in tax cuts on the wealthy and well-connected.

These proposals - like so many other wrong-headed ideas in Bush's 2006 budget - are morally and fiscally bankrupt. And I pledge to you that I will do everything in my power to make sure they never see the light of day.

And if anyone is still asking you just what's wrong with George Bush's leadership, tell them about his latest budget. Tell them what you think of a president who wants to cut back on the meager benefits available to the most vulnerable while he goes on rewarding the most comfortable.

We thought the president got the message last year when Congress stopped his scheme to privatize Social Security. But, when it comes to protecting the health and well-being of America's families, this administration just doesn't get the message.

And, when people need our government to be there for them the most, this White House is painfully slow to act. That's the inescapable conclusion at which even Republican investigations of the response to Hurricane Katrina have arrived.

It's hard to judge which is doing more harm - their calculated proposals like denying benefits to widows and orphans or their mind-boggling incompetence. But, one thing's for sure. We can't let America's families bear the brunt of either their bad ideas or their stunning failures of execution.

Throughout 2006, the health and well-being of our families is on the line. That's why we've got to work as hard as we have ever worked to win the pivotal policy debates and electoral contests of this dramatically important year.

We stopped the attack on Social Security last year, and we will stop them again. Thank you, as always, for your support. It means a lot to know I can count on you to stand with me as we take on these challenges.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

1. When Hillary is right, she's RIGHT!
From time to time, I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with Hillary Clinton. I don't always agree with everything she does or says, or the way she chooses to do things, but I have to give her credit where credit is due. She can cut to the bottom as good as anyone, and she does generally command the media attention. Of course, this can be a bad thing sometimes, too.

The message in her letter is a good one, and I agree that we need to make sure others hear this repeatedly as election time draws near this Fall.

3. Welcome to DU andy
you write like a true-blue Democrat... While Hillary isn't my first choice for the office, she's probably the candidate that will ultimately get my vote. Sadly, I don't think Russ will win the primary this time.

Who's your favorite candidate andy?

15. i think we've been "on our own" for a VERY long time
Divide and conquer is the strategy for Repukes... As long as there are white people that they can influence to hate other races or religious fundamentalists willing to hate other religions we will be isolated and "on our own." Unity is the key. Once rank and file rethuglicans realize we are ALL American and entitled to eqaul rights and justice under the law, there will be no more political debate about silly devisive issues like gun-control and abortion. Indeed, it's ALL of us "alone" as individuals or in small groups, against the top 3% of wage earners. They're obviously out to get us but they can't directly attack 97% of the population and win.

so let me get this straight, truth hurts. Are you proposing we shouldn't even worry about voting because there MIGHT be crooked machines?

9. Nope. Saying we need to address both issues!
Gaining more Democrats is a wonderful thing but we have to make sure that when they get to the polls and spend 3+ hours in line that their votes will actually count!

14. HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY DO THAT?
TELLING PEOPLE THAT A DEMOCRATIC VOTE DOESN'T COUNT ONLY INDUCES THEM NOT TO VOTE... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GIVE INFORMATION THAT KEEPS DEMOCRATIC VOTERS AT HOME IN NOV?

I'VE NEVER SPENT 3 HOURS IN LINE TO VOTE EITHER.

18. Well, I've spent 3+ hours in line waiting to vote
As have many other African American voters. And we all see first hand how many of the machines are broken and/or defective on election day. This is a MAJOR issue for a LOT of people including me.

8. Oh, I've been waiting for the hit
on widow and orphan benefits. It didn't seem to matter how many times this question was asked during the attempt at the big SS Sell last year, no one would answer the question.

Ah, yes, social engineering at its best!

10. she's just outlining part of the problem
Interest rates on educational loans just went through the roof, thanks to our fearless draft-dodging leader.

Fed assistance money to find and prosecute dead-beat dads has been curtailed as well.

11. Yes, the child support enforcement cuts really tick me off!
While I don't have a problem with encouraging parents to make their kids stay in school, for * to threaten to yank survivorship benefits if the child doesn't comply is not an appropriate way to handle the drop-out problem.

These proposed cuts are actually hidden in the budget proposal. As a widow with a five year old, my son and I both receive survivor benefits. I'd been waiting last year to hear what * would propose during his thankfully failed attempt to mess with SS. He always managed to get away with not answering the question. Well, now we know... *sigh*

Trust me, I agree with Hillary on this one, 100%.

12. I say shackle the unscrupulous thieves with it
All the way to November... Tax cuts to the idle rich paid for by letting single moms, widows, orphans the elderly and disabled suffer... It's not as if these parasites of humanity actually need any more money... it's only a status thing to them but it's life or death to the less fortunate.

16. raising fuel prices through the roof only "fuels" inflation
Middle-income Americans are a prime target... Higher transport costs create an unrivaled stimuli for run-away inflation at every level.

Why do we continue to recite the Stalin-like BIG LIE that the "rich get richer as the poor get poorer?

EVERYTHING the repukes do widens the gap between the idle-rich parasites and the workers who support their decadent life-style.

19. The truth can't be hidden from those who really care.
She does cut right thru the crap. Social Security is TOO important to be left to a guy who can't tie his own shoes. It sure is nice to read things from an intelligent politician, when you are so used to hearing the Village Idiot!
