Man Shot by Cheney Suffers Heart Irregularity
By Nicholas Riccardi and James Gerstenzang, Times Staff Writers

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-021406cheney_lat,0,7789937.story?coll=la-home-headlines

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The man shot by Vice President Dick Cheney experienced a heart irregularity after birdshot moved into his heart muscle and will remain hospitalized for another week, doctors reported today.

A pellet from Cheney's gun migrated near the heart, and caused "irritability to the heart muscle," said Dr. David Blanchard, who is treating the man.

Blanchard said the result is that the heart "is beating irregularly. It's basically like a short circuit." The doctor referred to the victim, 78-year-old lawyer Harry Whittington, as having "a silent, or minor heart attack."

Blanchard said the patient has a strong heart and is doing well. A hospital spokesman said the chances that "one problematic birdshot" would migrate as it has toward Whittington's heart are "one in 99.99."

4. As much as I'd like to believe their intent to be medically accurate...
...I'm still thinking "let's play down the heart attack headline."

13. Oh, of course it's spin.
I just like pointing out how much of a nit picker you have to get with language in order to validate that kind of spin. That'd be like saying carpet bombing causes "dust displacement".

9. You know, the usual scare you get when you're shot in the face
and some of the shot ends up in your heart.

Just one of those everyday health scares. :eyes:

8. That's a far cry from the original story...
"It broke the skin," she said of the shotgun pellets. "It knocked him silly. But he was fine. He was talking. His eyes were open. It didn't get in his eyes or anything like that."

12. a "short-circuit"?
wtf, these jokers play so many word games! they must have a 1984 bible that they go to before any public comment is given.

heart attack=short circuit
lying=defending freedom
killing innocents=bringing democracy

i'm just guessing here because i don't have a copy of their "bible".
