Got Him: Cheney Caught Lying During Today's Interview
My wife just called an pointed out that Cheney clearly lied during his interview today.

When asked today why Katharine Armstrong was appointed to inform the world that he'd shot a man in the face, he said:

"And so we were confident that Katharine was the right one, especially because she was an eyewitness and she could speak authoritatively on it. She probably knew better than I did what had happened, since I'd only seen one piece of it." (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/15/cheney.transcript/)

But when Katharine Armstrong was asked by the AP, she said that she'd not seen the shooting; she'd only seen Cheney's security detail running toward the scene: "The first thing that crossed my mind was he had a heart problem" (http://www.abqtrib.com/albq/nw_national/article/0,2564,ALBQ_19860_4466287,00.html)

There is no end to the lying from this crowd. No end.

1. There you go. I've got one, also.
It's a blatant lie about where Cheney shot W.

Such a liar. Cheney would lie, even if it were easier to tell the truth.

3. One more?
Local news just played a couple of clips (the first ones I've seen). Cheney said that he'll never forget the image of the other guy falling backwards after he'd shot him. Um... If he hadn't seen him to begin with, how did he see him falling backwards so clearly?

5. read this salon piece on Cheney/Armstrong inconsistancies if you get time
http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2006/02/15/story/index.html

<snip>

Cheney and his "witness"

Dick Cheney told Fox News today that he wanted ranch owner Katharine Armstrong to break the news that he had shot a fellow hunter in order to ensure that the public got "as accurate a story as possible." It's not clear why the White House Press Office couldn't be trusted to provide an accurate account of the incident. What is clear: Cheney's account differs in several respects from the one Armstrong put out.

19. Is Pamela Willeford Cheney's new girlfriend?
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 07:26 AM by 0007
Perhaps true

edited to add: Pamela Willeford, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland, another member of the hunting party, told the Dallas Morning News for a story in today's editions that she and Cheney didn't realize Whittington had picked up a bird and caught up with them.

Willeford said she has hunted with Cheney before and would again.

"He's a great shot. He's very safety conscious," she said. "This is something that unfortunately was a bad accident, and when you're with a group like that, he's safe or safer than all the rest of us."

10. Huh? How?
I'll buy that perhaps Armstrong was lying instead (although, why would she?)- but in what plausible scenario would both of them be telling the truth.

8. technically, she is an eye witness.
she had first hand visual evidence of SOME of the circumstances surrounding the shooting. she was not an eye witness to the actual shooting itself, but nevertheless had eye witness evidence relevant to any investigation of the shooting.

for instance, she saw where the body fell, and she saw if there were any bright orange trees in the vicinity that whittington might have blended into.

27. I disagree. She may be a witness, but is not an eyewitness.
Referring to a legal or investigatory setting, Armstrong would be a potential witness in that she has some knowledge of the circumstances. But she is NOT an eyewitness, having not seen the actual crime (or "incident", if you prefer). She is neither technically, nor actually, an eyewitness.

I have proved cases in court, and have rebutted others' proof of cases in court.

According to this report the group that was staying at the ranch consisted of Armstrong and her boyfriend, Willeford and her husband, Whittington and his wife, Armstrong's sister and her husband, and Nancy Negley an art philanthropist.

26. They're trying to spin their way out of her call -- they did NOT expect it
There is NO way "they" decided Katharine should call the local paper. That's just ridiculous. She thought the story would soon get out anyway, and so unknown to them she called her pal. I believe they were working on a complete coverup.

So now they have to justify her call with lies like, "Oh yeah, we all decided that's how the news should be released," and "She was an eyewitness." Early reports say something different: Initially, she said they did NOT know she was making the call, and she was NOT an eyewitness.
