Salon has published Abu Ghraib photos that are beyond description.

Salon exclusive: The Abu Ghraib files
Never-published photos, and an internal Army report, show more Iraqi prisoner abuse -- evidence the government is fighting to hide.

By Mark Benjamin

Feb. 16, 2006 | Salon has obtained files and other electronic documents from an internal Army investigation into the Abu Ghraib prisoner-abuse scandal. The material, which includes more than 1,000 photographs, videos and supporting documents from the Army's probe, may represent all of the photographic and video evidence that pertains to that investigation.

The DVD containing the material includes a June 6, 2004, CID investigation report written by Special Agent James E. Seigmund. That report includes the following summary of the material included: "A review of all the computer media submitted to this office revealed a total of 1,325 images of suspected detainee abuse, 93 video files of suspected detainee abuse, 660 images of adult pornography, 546 images of suspected dead Iraqi detainees, 29 images of soldiers in simulated sexual acts, 20 images of a soldier with a Swastika drawn between his eyes, 37 images of Military Working dogs being used in abuse of detainees and 125 images of questionable acts." The photographs we are showing in the accompanying gallery represent a small fraction of these visual materials. None, as far as we know, have been published elsewhere. They include: a naked, handcuffed prisoner in a contorted position; a dead prisoner who had been severely beaten; a prisoner apparently sodomizing himself with an object; and a naked, hooded prisoner standing next to an American officer who is blandly writing a report against a wall. Other photographs depict a bloody cell.

The DVD also includes photographs of guards threatening Iraqi prisoners with dogs, homemade videotapes depicting hooded prisoners being forced to masturbate, and a video showing a mentally disturbed prisoner smashing his head against a door. Oddly, the material also includes numerous photographs of slaughtered animals and mundane images of soldiers traveling around Iraq.

Based on a verbal description of the files and images, Olshansky said she believes that the material obtained by Salon represents all of the Abu Ghraib images and video the Pentagon has been fighting to keep confidential. "I'm guessing that what you have is a pretty rare and complete set," she said.

1. I cannot look
Too depressing and sad our leadership would hand out those orders.

2. They are very, very graphic and disturbing...
...and they make the photos published this week on other Web Sites look mild in comparison.

Supposedly, Salon has the "complete set"...EVERYTHING that was on that DVD.

4. What I would like to have is a list of the names of the soldiers
who refused these orders. Soldiers who said, "Respectfully, sir, hell no I won't do this!" I would hope that it is a long list, but the hope isn't strong. The idea that a bunch of fascists who have taken over our government would give these vile and criminal orders is not so saddening as the number of G.I. Joes and Janes who say, "Yes sir!" - and execute those orders. I want the military to revolt, but I know it will never happen...

22. I can't either.
I saw the selection from that Australian paper, and it made me sick. I'm afraid to look at any other photos.

3. This stuff is why I can't understand people who are so proud to be
Americans. How they can feel justified in having that done in their name is beyond me.

6. Just because they didn't specifically refer to them...
...doesn't mean Salon doesn't have them.

Look at the "inventory list" again.

7. is there any Iraqi -- or any Muslim -- who will not hate the U.S. . .
with every ounce of their being after viewing these photos? . . .

the people responsible for these atrocities, these crimes against humanity, must be prosecuted and sentenced . . . and that includes everyone from the military personnel taking part right up the chain of command to the Commander-in-Chief . . .

this is absolutely horrendous . . . it is NOT the way I was brought up to believe Americans treat prisoners . . . or any human beings, for that matter . . .

that use female underwear to humiliate these prisoners. or menstrual blood of a female, sluttifying female to get these guys. JUST FUCK my fellow american male. i say this to my father, two brothers, husband and sons.... that is bullshit. and it says something about them as males. just fuck em

in my book, not only do they humiliate the prisoner, they are equally degrading women.

what they are doing. not only are they hurting fellowman with this attitude that this is ok, nor what they are doing to fellowman in actual torturing, but the innate attitude of disrespect for female to be using female to humiliate male. i hope they feel shame. i hope they learn what is right as opposed to doing wrong

i HOPE they EVOLVE

16. Don't forget Lynndie England, Megan Ambuhl, Sabrina Harman...
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 03:09 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
...she was a willing participant in all of this, too. Supposedly some of the new photos feature her having sex with Graner in the midst of these atrocities (an article on the Australian broadcast of the new photos said that these were NOT shown). So there's some very sick, very disgusting female behavior going on here too. It's "equal opportunity," it's not confined by gender lines.

I respect your right to be angry...and I request that you don't place 100% of the blame on American MALES.

18. who do you think convinced this stupid ass female to do this
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 03:36 PM by seabeyond
and yes she pisses me off. but really i see most of these low levels brainwashed. i understand the psychological work army does with enlisted, all .... male/female.

i said father son brother and husband.....

i love all these males. they are good males. so in essence they are not included but are included if they cannot grasp the behavior of fellow male with something like this. and though i know they would never do something, i dont think they have the understanding of underlaying disdain this is for female and how it hurts us as a society as a whole.

but, i absolutely see the female role that we use and abuse too. just a whole other story we aren't talking about in this post. i am an equal opportunist in finding the better of who we are, instead of being the worst of who we are. individually and as a whole

but thank you for bringing up this woman. yes. you are right. they also got a woman to smear menstrual blood on men at gitgo too. i would have told them to fuck off, i dont care how much of a patriotic duty i had.

17. Beyond disgusting...
and what can be considered equally disgusting is that last night my local news reported that the troops shown in the pictures could not be verified as American.

Hmmmm....SPC. Charles Graner, SPC. Christoperson, Staff Sgt. Ivan "Chip" Frederick, Sgt. Evans. Yep, the "Liberal Media" is at it again.

23. Bullies want "freedom" to abuse and manipulate
others without any accountability to the victims or the victims defenders.

Bullies create victims but want all victims to be silent, vioceless, invisible, powerless and accepting of more abuse.

One thing people forget about bullies and violence ids that ALL bullying acts of sadism targeting a weaker, restrained, imprisoned, or less powerful person in a vunerable position who is less able or unable to fight back, are VOLUNTARY CHOICES a sadist chooses to abuse trust violate consent and exploit power.

Bullying is a choice and all bullies must not be tolerated for making the choice to victimize others.

There can be no peace in a society when a bully is tolerated for huring others.
