We have to abandon the Democratic Party
It has come to this:

The Democrats have sold out our future over and over again. They caved on the elections. They caved on the War. They've caved on judicial nominations. They've caved on torture. They've caved on abortion rights. They have accepted lies and hate as the legitimate political discourse in this country.

Every time they have told us they were going to fight, we've seen them turn tail and run. It has happened so often we have to begin to wonder who's side they're really on. Those in the party who have attempted to continue to fight, like McKinney, Feingold, and Byrd, have been silenced and isolated from the Party at large.

The evidence is overwhelming, and now they're asking us to follow them again down this dark path of seeking common ground with religious/political fanatics. In 2004 we dropped everything to vote for a man who had already forgotten that the War in Iraq was an illegal and unjustifiable war crime. The Democrats took our riteous outrage and desire for a better world and made it a referendum on who could prosecute these crimes more effectively.

Dean now argues for more troops in Iraq. And when he's not arguing for more troops in Iraq he's arguing for war with Iran. Just as Democrats before Iraq argued for war with N. Korea or Saudi Arabia instead of Iraq. It's insane.

There is only one option left, literally one option. That we finally take responsibility for turning back this monster. We must break out of politics as usual.

The only mechanism that I see on the horizon for doing this is the World Can't Wait, Drive Out the Bush Regime!

Forget the congressional elections. Even if the Democrats win we lose, because of what they're doing in order to win. And frankly by November they will have lost it anyway. They're running the same campaign that they ran in 2004. They're pushing real leaders out of the way in favor of political hacks. They're selling out principles in favor of "victory". We've seen their "victory" and it looks like a profound defeat.

The Bush Regime must be driven out. That should be the most important political mobilization of this year. If we mobilize in favor of elections we will remain trapped in these killing confines. If we step out onto the stage of history in a massive independent political mobilization, we can win. It is the only way.

Can we stand another war? Can we stand another day of political repression and the continued growth and legitimization of the apparatus with which to do it? Can we stand another day of torture?

Now I titled this post more for controversy than to be taken literally. There is a role in this movement for Democrats and even for some Party leaders. Already many have signed onto the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime. But we cannot wait for them to lead. We have to do it ourselves and they're going to have to follow us.
