Wake up people, OUR country is no more....
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 05:04 PM by Nimrod2005
It is amazing to watch recent events:

1) Our country attacks another country for no real reason and no consequences!
2) Our govt. lies about it, people die, nothing happens!
3) Our dictatorship wants to spy on us and pass more laws allowing them to do it, no problem!
4) Our govt. just gave oil companies $7 billion tax breaks, noone yelled!
5) Our govt. cuts Medicare/Medicaid and other programs, no real fight anywhere!!!

And I can go on...But, it is plenty clear that the powerful and people with the most money get elected...It is also clear that big corporations enjoy 100% freedom to pollute, price their products at whatever levels, and cut employees and employees benefits whenever they like!!! I don't have a problem with that, but clearly the little guy can't compete. The average American is just trying to survive all the madness.

The stock market just hit new highs again today!!! We are all on here bitching and moaning about all these wrong things in the country, the country's leadership, and uncertain future. But look around you? Does it look like anyone cares? the media does not talk about the concerns, the markets don't care, noone does!!!

I guess in a nutshell: Politicians are not fighting for you, your government is not fighting for you, people with power and interest are not fighting for you, so what happened to my country?

It feels like this country is on auto pilot, going in the wrong direction, but not enough people seem to want to change that either...

I don't know if this a rant or not, but just decided it would be good to share my thoughts.

But...that only helps if they vote like Democrats once they're in office. (96-3?!?!)

3. And the American public is fed a steady diet of "rich and famous"
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 04:46 PM by stopbush
crap on TV, reinforcing the Alger Myth that they, too, can become rich just like
the elites. It's only a gameshow appearance or a lottery ticket away! This leads
to the "don't rock the boat...that might be me in a few years" dream.

I'm convinced that Americans absolutely KNOW that Enron, bushco Abramoff and the
like are dishonest, wrong and evil. But they also believe that "that's what it takes
to get ahead/stay safe/get to heaven" in the world today. Rather than finding such
attitudes abhorent, they actually ASPIRE to the evil and the benefits of going
over to the darkside.

And, with Jeebus standing by to forgive and forget any ill committed by his
Faithful, the sheeple fall for it, hook line n sinker.

11. "It's only a gameshow appearance or a lottery ticket away!"
Don't forget "working hard." My wife and I will at times amuse ourselves with the "working hard" platitude game. When we are traveling somewhere and see a house or car we like, we'll say something like, "Well, if you want that, you gotta work hard, or "Wish I could afford something like that, but I guess I haven't been working hard enough!"

Her dad was a farmer and struggled all his life, eventually forced into selling his land to pay creditors. Whenever she reflects on this, I say, "Well, dear, he'd have been successful if he only had worked hard." She understands the sarcasm.

All the bullshit we heard growing up about "working hard to succeed" has become nothing more than an occasional parody to chuckle about for a few passing moments.

20. We're on the same page - it started with Robin Leech...
I'm not joking.

I recall when as high school students we fought to be able to wear blue jeans to (public!) school to show solidarity with the migrant farm workers....

Then came Robin Leech and his parade of life's lottery winners...

Jeans then became "designer" jeans....

You're absolutely right. The idea of hitting the lottery as a way of life is too pervasive in our society...

23. And why do people consume this BS.
One reason, IMO, is that they are taught from an early age to accept the lies spewed in religion as the truth. It is operant conditioning.

4. I feel like I could do more good now by just slapping people
in the face. All the talking and writing has done nothing. It's like half of the country is brain dead and happy to be so. For the first time in my life I think that it may take much more than words to make a difference. Maybe the real patriots will be the ones that die in our streets standing up for what we have lost.

13. I am about to that point also FightingIrish.
The apathy has gone beyond pitifully sad to overtly disgusting now. Each new revelation that brings new found hope of this regime's downfall gets quickly dashed.

I just want to scream in their faces and smack them upside the head.

I have always been a pacifist and am deeply concerned to be feeling this way now. It is how I am judging how bad the country has deteriorated.

It is very bad.

5. I just said aloud to myself, "I need to leave this country"
and it's sadly true -- I don't feel like I belong here anymore. I don't feel like I LIVE anymore; I just WORK. (That's part of their plan.) I'm not DREAMING anymore because I don't see a future that affords me any opportunity to better myself and my situation. (That's also part of their plan.)

Just getting the hell out of here is looking better and better and less painful than staying and trying to remain a "good German" while the walls fall around me.

9. I do dream, but my dreams are about me first, like I want
to work as hard as I can, save as much money as I can...And fuck everybody and everything else!!! I know SS won't be there or they tell you it won't, I know healthcare is NOT going to be provided to me, I just have to do it myself...There is no sense of togetherness, or if we worked together we will get more done...etc. what made this country what it was in past times!!!

The people who can do stuff are either busy fighting wars from which they can benefit, and or fighting each other for even more powerful positions in politics or govt...I guess what is really amazing is NOBODY wants to do anything about it, only a handful of people stand up and fight, but it is always short lived because no people want to join in...

8. what can we do?
our Democratic Senators seem to be unable to get a bill passed..hell, they can't even get the right to speak..they are always shut out.......the media keeps pumping that the Democrats have no plan.that the Democrats are weak on secutiry..and don't even give them a chance to bring their ideas out........

yes we should try to vote out the corrupt.but how can we be sure our votes are not just cast aside and the machines.the ballots.the press are going to count them right.

I see no end in this corruption....I don't know where this country is going...but in all my 60 years..I do not remember it being as corrupt....the media has truly taken the GOP side and we are shut out

15. A tiny bit pf perspective...
Things are fairly f**cked up right now...but historically things have been alot worse. For crisakes, we managed to survive a civil war, depressions, constitutional crises, robber barons, world wars, cold wars...and on and on...certainly this half-brained twit in the white house and his lackeys in Congress are not a more formidible challenge than those I listed (and more).

we fought wars and won them when we were all working together, when everyone said we will work hard to leave a better country for our kids, we will build a better future...etc.

But it really isn't unusual...Americans have always gone through these bouts of "meism." We manage to shake ourselves loose from its grip eventually.
