Have YOU Seen "Orwell Rolls Over In His Grave" Yet?
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 03:30 PM by radio4progressives
This question is open to DLC Defenders and DLC critics as well..

my point in asking the question is an attempt to understand with more improved clarity and comprehension, why so many liberal/Democratic party activists seem to disproportionately be lacking in understanding with regard to the behind the scenes corrupt political machinations which really changed the course of our history over and over again, since assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK, to Watergate, to the October Surprise, to the stolen 2000 elections (and the corrupted media during the campaign) and all that has followed since.

The film happens to be airing on FSTV at the moment I'm writing this, and it occurs to me that not enough people, (particularly Democratic Party Activists/Functionaries) have yet to see this film. I'm thinking if you have seen this film, you would understand exactly what it is that Progressives are talking about. I'm not saying that you'll be in unanimity with progressive values and ideology, (that isn't at all what this film is about).

I'm saying we can at least begin dialog and debate in the context of general agreement on same basic historical FACTS, that certain events occurred, and certain players were involved etc etc etc..

If you have seen the film, i'd love to know your thoughts about it, did you learn anything that you didn't know. The film covers a broad range of issues and events in the context of the role of the Media in shaping those events.

Ruppert Murdock and Fox news channel is certainly an important focus, but it goes beyond what is commonly known, so if you haven't seen the film yet, i urge to do so SOON. (heck, you can go rent the film this weekend) ..

I wanted to open this up to discussion for everyone actually, so i hope it's not disrupted by snarky attacks and so forth..

fyi, my primary entry into polical activism was primarily focused on the Media - I see it as the primary means in driving and shaping our socio-economic and political decisions as a country - whether or not we all agree we are already in a state of fascism, or that we are nearing a fascist state - can't be accomplished without a state controlled media, which is pretty much what we have.

on edit: i changed the subject table content, because it seemed it was to close to breaking my own "no snarky attack" rule.. ;)

1. I have seen it...
... and my only complaint was that it didn't bore down in enough detail on root causes. Perhaps I felt that way because the examples shown were nothing new to me, but then, I try to keep track of what the media is doing and why.

For the uninitiated, it's probably an eye-opener, if viewed with an open mind. No question, though--Pappas does roll up a lot of the issues together in one package.

2. I totally agree with you on how it didn't bore down far enough...
but as educational tool for the unitiated (and there are far too many)i think it does a decent job as remedial primer.

when i see all the outraged postings (for instance) on Chris Matthews just said about a favorite candidate - it is evidence that too many people don't know how this all came to be, and why it is so important to be a media activist - in our earnest quest for reclaiming our democracy.

all these issues of concern cannot be advanced or run intereference without the direct assistance and deliberate involvement of the MEDIA.

3. Yes, It's Frightening
if anyone has FSTV they should watch it. It's been a while since I've watched it (i saved it) It's hard to watch because of 2000 election & war. Watching the media be so complacent and manipulative while election being stolen, war being waged on lies again is hard to stomach. But it happened, it's true and there is more to come. Democracy is just a word in this country. The media is more frightening than Bush - he will go - they will stay.

4. Why are only Progressives keenly informed, but the "moderates"
avoid this issue? Why don't the DLC defenders ever weigh in on this issue?

7. I Don't See "Moderates" Reaching Out to What May Be
described at too "liberal".

I've tried to get many people I know to watch Democracy Now, FSTV, World Link and others with little progress. I'm an aging hippie activist. I couldn't get even some of my most liberal friends to attend anti-war protests. Too busy, what if my employer found out? Paranoia abounds these days.

15. absolutely... i've seen this a couple of times before...
but this morning, i caught some information that i missed in previous viewings, and it occurs to me that others really need to see this film in order to get what has been done to us so that we can act collectively together to turn things around.

5. Too late to edit : should have said:....
In fourth paragraph, last sentence: should have been written:

The film covers a broad range of issues and events in the context of the role of the Media in shaping PERCEPTIONS of those events.

("Perceptions" was inadvertently omitted)

11. I strongly encourage you to tape it... make sure you have a good blank
tape ready to go, if you can pre-set the record time - you'll have it to see at your convenience - it's something to see more than once, not in the same sitting.

Though the main themes will seem rather obvious and certainly apparent - there is critical information about events in the past that have never on the mainstream (for obvious reasons)... that might blow the minds of even the those among us who have always sought news from alternative sources and therefore see oursevles as fairly well informed.

10. Some of those DUers who "don't seem to understand"
are plants, moles, ne'er-do-wells, freepers, FBI, CIA and/or god knows what else. They're from the dark side. Probably far more than we realize.

14. I'm beginning to suspect this is true to a certain degree...
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 05:24 PM by radio4progressives
they are never on the radar screen in our "call to action" fights, (i.e. alito filibuster) never. i never ever see the addys of the usual suspects who seem to appear in pacs to attack critics. where are they in this thread? no where to be found, instead they create red herring/straw man diversionary threads.
