Chertoff Defends Review of Ports Takeover
I wonder if a lot of those "Bush is tough on terrorism" poll responders feel duped?

Chertoff Defends Review of Ports Takeover

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff on Sunday defended the government's security review of an Arab company given permission to take over operations at six major U.S. ports.

"We make sure there are assurances in place, in general, sufficient to satisfy us that the deal is appropriate from a national security standpoint," Chertoff said on ABC's "This Week."

London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., was bought last week by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business from the United Arab Emirates. Peninsular and Oriental runs major commercial operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.

U.S. lawmakers from both parties are questioning the sale, approved by the Bush administration, as a possible risk to national security.

1. Okay, let's trust them.
If hell breaks loose, will they all be jailed for the worst possible offenses? This is a huge risk.

Since all this is on Sunday news, it's fair to get a full discussion as to why this is happening.

4. No. If all hell breaks loose...
I'll be covered in radioactive fallout and those fuckers will declare martial law (and seal off NYC, while saying that there's nothing the federal government should do for THOSE people).

3. Here's my post from a recent similar thread............WTF!?
"We make sure there are assurances in place, in general, sufficient to satisfy us that the deal is appropriate from a national security standpoint," Chertoff said on ABC's "This Week."

"In general"???

In fucking general???

Chertof used that phrase twice.

So, in general, our ports will be safe. (with possible exceptions?)

I can't take much more. I'm close to my own personal "tipping point".
