Former President Carter doesn't think Dubai owning our ports is a threat
to national security. Sometimes he is just too complacent and too easy on this administration.

3. Good grief!
Even Tom Ridge admits it's a bad idea. I love Jimmy Carter, but sometimes people are so intellectual they are stupid.

18. I thought Ridge only said
he thinks there should be more transparency, that safety measures should be explained to us or something like that.

10. Everyone is entitled to one boneheaded decision
Clinton's was Don't Ask/Don't Tell
Hillary's was that moronic bill to make flag burning illegal

MonkeyBoy and BigDick are waaaaaaaaaaay over their limit.

If Jimmy Carter thinks having a foreign nation - ANY foreign nation - responsible for our port security, this is his. Took him long enough to get around to it.

11. Oh, Jesus Christ. Sometimes I wonder about DU.
Jimmy Carter is now "a traitor" because he does not agree with the fevered DU consensus on this issue?

"Dubai owning our ports" is something of a misstatement of the facts, no? A well-known (among port people) company based in Dubai and linked to the UAE's leading family is buying up the British company that has the contract to operate the ports, which remain under the security umbrella of the US government.

Y'all can go apeshit on this issue if you wish, now that the stop-the-presses, earth-shattering-revelation Cheney hunting incident is so last week, but I think I'll stand with ol' JC on this one.

It is tempting, I admit: Gee, we can play into nativist hysteria AND bash Bush for invitin' Al Qaeda in AND act just as scared as the Republicans would like us to be all the time. You guys knock yourselves out on this one; I'll pass.

13. An honest man has a difficult time seeing dishonesty in others.
The reverse is not true, however; the dishonest man depends on the other's honesty in order to dupe him.

14. Carter also praised NAFTA
GATT, WTO, CAFTA, and every other destructive swindle that came down the pike masquerading as a so called "trade" agreement.

Arabs=Bad

Or more accurately:

Arabs=Terrorists

I'll stand with Jimmy Carter on this one. Speaking the truth ain't always easy.

Not Islamic threats seriously is one of the reasons Carter didn't get re-elected.

20. Carter/UAE
Carter is,I believe,right on this one. Managing port operations under the P&O contract is no different than under the UAE.
Security for the port was/is/will be the responsibility of DHS. If there is an issue here it is that Chertoff is the head of DHS and his track record is about as good as Dick,Rummy and Condi. Given that DHS is suspect in its operations, this isn't about the DPW buying P&O it's about the performance of DHS.
