I think this ports deal is a Rovian scam. The Repukes in
Congress appear to get all up in arms, vote to stop the deal and Bush then vetoes the new law. Whether the veto is overridden is decided by the poll numbers. Either way, the Bushbots can then go out and run in November as non-Bushbots who "stood up" to the President. This is not an issue of national security to them, it is a political Potemkin laundromat to give the appearance of washing the Bush stink off of them for the 2006 Elections. When they get re-elected, presto chango, Bushbots once more.

When Peter "all over but the counting" is on CNN as a "patriotic American" "dismayed" with the President, I call bullshit.

1. Me too.
Not that it matters much. The deal stinks and Democrats should be all over the stinkiness and force their opponents to denounce it at every opportunity. Go with their little trick - what else can we do, support turning our ports over to the UAE?

I don't think so
I think this time they have truly made a blunder and can't backpeddle.

4. This Administration thrives on blunders, but makes sure their
girlfriends swallow the evidence.

5. A win-win for Bushies
The deal goes through and Bush-affiliated businesses like the Carlyle Group make a bundle. The deal doesn't go through in a scenario like you mentioned and a lot of bushbot congress critters might just get to keep their jobs.

6. Carlyle Group is involved; does that clarify the situation?

7. I think it's cronyism again, check out this little cited fact that is...
...burried deep within this AP story: <http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/3652381.html>

"Last month, the White House appointed a senior DP (Dubai Ports) World executive, David C. Sanborn of Virginia, to be the new administrator of the Maritime Administration of the Transportation Department. Sanborn worked as DP World's director of operations for Europe and Latin America.
