Excellent statement from Dean about candidates you don't like.
Or incumbents you don't like, what to do. I thought he handled this well. This is from a post at Kos about the WA state events Monday...very tactful...Dr. Dean. But it sends a message about primaries, don't you think?

REPUB-LITE DEMS
At the PCO training, one man asked Dean: what do we do about people like my Dem senator (he meant his LD senator, I believe) who does not act on core Democratic principles. Dean smiled a bit nervously; he did not want to mention any names ...... but he said: "My job is to get Democrats elected. I don't pick the Democrats; that's your job. That's what elections are for, that's what primaries are for."

2. It's a politician's answer
but it's true nonetheless.

To quote Kucinich, "I'm electable if you vote for me."

9. you're right, it is a politician's answer
I don't interpret the statement as saying in any way shape or form the Dean disapproves of any candidate or considers any candidate "Repub lite."

Dean smiled a bit nervously; he did not want to mention any names

How do you know this? Did Dean SAY he didn't want to mention names?

but he said: "My job is to get Democrats elected. I don't pick the Democrats; that's your job. That's what elections are for, that's what primaries are for."

Since we're all obviously allowed to interpret Dean's "smiles," whether he was nervous or not, and whether he was talking about "repub lites," my interpretation is this: Dean meant that if he didn't like his senator, don't vote for him. His job, however, is in opposition to that. His job is to get Democrats elected.

In fact, I'll go further. Dean's nervous smile was probably a reaction to the person, as in, "ooh boy, another one of these purists... I'd better answer in neutral terms...

3. Think about the dirty deal Harry Reid and the DLC did to Hackett
Going behind his back and telling Dem contributors not to contribute to him. Hackett had asked if the DLC candidate would be running, was told no, stuck his neck out and Rovian Reid stabbed him in the back. The DLC chooses our candidates. Congressman Van Hollen was told not to run for the Senate after he had started campaigning because the DLC wouldn't fund him so Van Hollen dropped out of the Senate race for retiring Sen. Sarbanes seat and the DLC have chosen a DINO and he is the one who will get the DLC money that they got from Dem contributors.

Dean needs to do better than this. We need a third party. A vote for Hillary is a vote for bush. She has a better personality but like Bill will continue to cut services to the poor and she is for Iran war.

What about the Democrats who voted for the Patriot Act two weeks ago? Only Feingold and Byrd among the Dems voted against and Independent Jim Jeffords who is retiring.

Why did 98% of the Democrats vote for martial law under bush the dictator?

7. fantasy. Pure fantasy.
Hackett had asked if the DLC candidate would be running

Where? Who? When? LINK?

Congressman Van Hollen was told not to run for the Senate after he had started campaigning because the DLC wouldn't fund him so Van Hollen dropped out of the Senate race

So someone relied on the DLC for funding?

8. I hear this again and again
I have been asked to provide evidence of bad poll numbers for Hackett, which I did, but, requests for evidence of these charges you cite always go unanswered.

Got any proof of this?

13. A vote for Hillary is NOT a vote for Bush.
She does care about the poor and please provide proof that Hillary has said she wants a war with Iran. I have never heard her say she wants to start a war with Iran.

I hate it when you Hillary haters just make shit up and call it facts.

10. Howard Dean is freaking great
I met him when he was campaigning with Freddy Ferrer for the NYC mayor's race. He was walking around Union Square park, he was completely approachable and was totally interested in what I had to say.

I told Dean the party had to purge itself of the wimps, sellouts and apologists.

Dean told me (if I recall his exact words correctly) "We're making progress."

To the person who said a vote for Hillary is a vote for Bush :eyes:
Where have I heard that before?
Oh yeah, during the 2000 election, the people who said there was no difference between Bush and Gore.

The Washington State PCO training and Annual "Crab Feed" rally was last night in Lacey, WA.

Howard Dean gave a pep talk to 300 PCOs, after a terrific 4-hour training session on "Talking American" by Prof. Domke of UW. (High point: treated to a video clip of Phil Donahue ripping Bill O'Reilly a new one on Bill's own show.) That deserves a diary of its own. Later, Dean rallied the 1000 or so attendees of the Crab Feed--biggest turnout ever.

I was determined to earn some photo-ops with Dean & others, so I whipped up a crustcean-themed headpiece with loads o' sparkles the day before....It worked. I graciously accepted many compliments, spoke with many of the electeds, and got pictures with some, including Governor Gregoire and Jim McDermott. A few approached ME to gush over the Crab Queen outfit, like Jean Godden of the Seattle City Council.
