Why is Bush serving the Democrats the 2006 Election on a Silver Platter?
(Concerning the UAE 6 ports issue)

Isn't this wierd, like it's almost too good to be true? It makes me feel excited, yet, uneasy, because my Grandmother always used to warn me:
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It can't be this easy.

1. George doesn't like the Republicans, either.
If you don't obey him, he hates you.

It's that simple.

2. You are right - this isn't about bipartisan issues - this is about $$$.
For Bush, that is. Always has been. Always will be.

3. He is not, he is doing the opposite.
Notice how some Republican Congressmen are coming out against the Bush port deal? Notice how some Republicans are coming out against the Bush cuts to funding cuts?

Bush is giving them issues to use to distance themselves from him in 2006. Republicans will say they are individuals and do not follow Bush lock-step. How they opposed Bush's horrible deals and programs. Its the usual political game.

4. Bush is extremely selfish - it was never about religion, it was...
never about politics, it was never about America - it was about Bush and his "buddies".

5. Actually- he's totally not

This is brilliant, IMO.

He's allowing the Republican running for Senate and the Congress to distance themselves from him- they get to show that they're "responsible" and that they're "protecting" America- and that they're "racists" (as far as Arabs are concerned- as majority of the country is- whether they say it or not).

And best of all- he gets what he apparently wants though a veto- or he gets overridden- giving the Republicans running for relection a boost and further blurring the lines between the far right and the Dems- who have no coherent message whatsoever on Iraq. Either way, the GOP can't lose.

Fucking brilliant move. Rove's no doubt.

Coopting yet another issue- and leaving the Dems scratching their heads once again.

The Dems have proven several times over the last month that they lack the cohesion and politcal fortitude to stand up to Bush (who's likely to remain unpopular through the election cycle).

Now, people will see- and the media will echo- that it's the Republicans who have to courage to say "enough is enough."

Like I said- brilliant.

7. I think no one has ever stopped him before and he knows his time
is almost up. So, he's pushing the envelope. It's a business decision, not a political one. I don't think Bush realizes the kind of life that awaits him if things go wrong.

9. Is there a 'hidden agenda' here?
What if this is a smoke screen? What if the sale is stopped and an American company has to bid on the ports? What company could possibly bid on this, unless of course there is a 'no bid' contract issued to - quess who - Haliburton of course.

15. Because it doesn't matter; with a fixed voting system, Repugs win.
Look, we have precincts with 80% Democrat registration, with ZERO KERRY VOTES in 2004 -- anyone making a fuss?

17. Because he can't run again.
* was never about the party. He's always been in it for himself. Why run for President? Because it made him the most powerful man in the world. That's what he cares about. That, and $$$, are all he cares about. Now that he can't run again, he doesn't care who wins the next election. It won't be about him, after all.
