"You told us this a long time ago, and were vilified for it."

Rep. John Murtha

We've Lost the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People (71 comments )

I've said for the last few months it's a civil war and our troops are targets caught in the middle. If we had 100 Iraqis and seven Americans killed in the last couple days, that's just an indication of how bad things have gotten: we've lost the hearts and minds of the people.

They now have elected officials, it was their election, we've got to let them know we're going to get out, we're not going to be occupiers, and they have to settle this themselves.

1). You told us this a long time ago, and were vilified for it. You said our soldiers would end up being the targets, and here we are and it has all come to pass.

What the hell has happened to our country? Bush is the biggest traitor we've ever had. His corporate buddies have sold us straight down the river.

Bring them home, bring them home NOW!!!!

2). Rep. Murtha: I'm a Vietnam vet and I agree with you 100 percent.

The neocons who planned this war obviously learned nothing from our experience in Southeast Asia. They displayed the same hubris and arrogance as the LBJ crowd. (Maybe those traits are passed down in their Ivy League colleges.)

3). Congressman:

You are a leader among cowards. I wish they would listen. But, for the first time since you took the national stage in November, I must disagree with you.

We didn't lose the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqi people. We never had them to lose in the first place. We were oil-starved, Israel-firsters stomping into their country from the very start. They knew it before a marine ever entered their borders. We, of course, chose instead to by a pack of lying crap from the Bushit administration thinking we were preventing the next holocaust. Instead, we started it. We, truly are the terrorists. We must leave now and do everything we can to make amends with ALL the people's of this world...beyond the Israelis...and pray that we can pull back from the hegemony that is at our doorsteo...the next 100 Years War, the next Crusades, WW3 or, most ominously, the real war to end all wars (hint: we'll all be dead).

4). Congressman Murtha:

You speak for most Americans. Please join Congressman Conyers in demanding impeachment hearings. America is bleeding to death while we watch. We need your help. We have your back.

1. #3 is correct; we never had their "hearts & minds" to lose.
You CANNOT INVADE a nation and "shock & awe" SLAUGHTER people's husbands, wives, kids... and win their hearts & minds.

Period.

2. It brings to mind that clip of the Iraqi woman crying in "F-9/11"...
...there's a big difference...a VERY big difference...between being the "winner" of hearts and minds and having a woman screaming for Allah to come down and even the score.

3. What's this "WE" stuff. There were 20% of us who told our representatives
NO. Plus 90% of the rest of the world. MOST of the people bought the party line. Some of us didn't. Unfortunately, most of us will end up paying for this mess, but not the people who started it and got rich off of it.

4. How come we never see or hear of the Carlyle Group or the
Halliburton boys sharing their profits with the boots on the ground? How come Dick Cheney & junior our king, who never fought in any war are the biggest cheer leaders for war? Is it because their main interest is with the Carlyle Group and the Halliburton girls?
