Question on the Dubai Port deal: I hear repukes say that this
will not compromise our security because the port authority and the coast guard are still in charge of security. IF this is true then what will the Dubai company be in charge of? I really don't understand why ANY private company is involved with our ports. Could someone enlighten me?

Thanks

3. Is it true that the coast guard and the port authority are in charge of
security, then what will the Dubai people be doing? I know if the repukes or GW want it, it must be bad for US citizens. I'm just I'm trying to figure out the fake reason for needing them here is.

2. Business good over Public good...
but how anyone can agree with this deal, even as we find that it is not just 6 ports, but 21, I do not know. They cannot even be honest or knowledgeable about the basic facts of the deal.

4. AS I understand it...
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 12:39 PM by liberalpress
They would be in charge of the day to day operation of the port... you know, keeping track of (but not hiding or changing)mainifests, hiring (only well-vetted) personnel, having access to (but not misusing) classified material regarding security procedure. But the Coast Guard will still inspect the one percent of the containers that get looked at.

:sarcasm:

9. Actually..
..it was being done by a British Company (is everything outsourced these days?) Controlling interest in that British company is being bought by the government of Dubai. The "official" line is "it's no big deal, these mergers and acquisitions happen every day."

Google "Saudi Arabia and George H.W. Bush"

5. The Coast guard is in charge when the Freight is in the water.
At the dock Customs is in charge when until it is unloaded.
AFter it is unloaded the Port Authority in this case the UAE would be responsible for security.
When the Mis-administration speaks remember they lie.

Also remember the Port Authority MAKES the Security PLANS, which are reviewed by the Coast Guard. Do you really want the United Arab Emirates making your security plans?

So they're really providing danger to our ports.

War is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength.

7. The coast guard is in charge of securing the docks from what i understand.
BUT, they go by the manifest created by the company controlling the ports(i.e. whats in what tankers etc.)
