Are Form. Pres` Carter and B.Clinton in Sup. of ports deal as Strat. to... |
|
as a Democratic strategy to alienate right wingers who have been programmed to hate everything these former Dem. Presidents ever stand for? This notion, take on their support of PORTS DEAL to use against Bush, is not original to me. It was presented to me in response to a previous posting of mine by,NOT COMPLETE WEB NAME: iamt... . I do not wish to post this person`s web identity without that person`s permission. With that said: I have thought about it for many hours and it feels right to me. Why else would Carter and Bill Clinton come out at this time with positive noises about this UAE ports deal ? These two men are not likely to be running for office again, and by agreeing with Bush would piss off right wingers towards Bush. It makes sense. Maybe Democrats are finally learning a few tricks of their own. If this is so, it is about time. ...Oscar

but I think Carter has his own thoughts and ideas and just him being him pisses the Repukes off. As for Bill, I don't know - I listened to Hillary on C-Span the other day and she was very clever and demanding with her questioning. But, on the other hand, there have been a few times I have felt that Bill has distanced himself from her i.e. Flag Burning... I'm think this whole situation is doing nothing but helping out the Repukes that are up for reelection in 2006 by showing their displeasure - it just plain smacks of Rove.

3. Why on Earth would B. Clinton be supp. a Bush Prop. That Dem.s oppose... |
|
by and large? Event if he actually agreed with it with I seriously doubt, why come out and say such at this time when Republicans are event running away from Bush on this issue? iam`s logic feels right to me.The GOP has been programming our Nation to hate everything these men ever stood or stand for. They are among a very few to make supportive statements regarding this PORTS DEAL. I was surfing the web and saw a cartoon with BUSH looking aghast at a caricature of Jimmy Carter supporting his policy. Maybe we have some real pro`s working for us as to Public Relations, people who know how to win these PR campaigns. I hope so. ...Oscar

2. I always thought Carter to be fairly honest and does come down on strange |
|
and unexpected sides of issues sometimes.
As far as Bill Clinton goes, he bought into this free trade globalization bull shit long ago so I can see why he would support it.

4. My feeling is that Carter is easily manipulated because he is trusting... |
|
of others, too trusting. He trusted Brzezinski in support of Jihadis vs USSR, which I thought at that time was LUNACY. The Jihadis being much more dangerous to our interests than the USSR was in Afghanistan. All anyone had to do was listen to what the Jihadis had to say to realize they were no friend of the U.S.A.. ...Oscar

5. I'm Sure Clinton and Carter are Both Speaking Their Minds |
|
They have a balanced view of security and foreign relations, are pro-business, and are not easily swayed by polemics from any quarter. The UAE probably feels like a trustworthy partner to them.
I think a lot of security concerns are a little overblown, and in a different situation might support the deal. But it's infuriating to see the administration's hypocrisy and double-standards on this deal when they're engaging in scare tactics on every other issue.
On the Afghanis, it's hard to put oneself in the mindset of 1979. The Soviets were a huge power, they were expanding (at least in this case), and what they did was not too different from what Bush is doing in Iraq now. It should have been opposed. Militant Islamic groups, on the other hand, were mostly a theoretical threat. Their anger was only occasionally directed toward the US.

better president if he hadn't hovered over every decision.....but compared to W??
he probably said this b/c he can't imagine president not fully investigating something like this
altho surely he's learned what an uninvolved 'person' W is
