A boneheaded and dangerous decision! That’s what I think of the decision by the people in the Bush administration who thought it was fine to allow a company owned by the United Arab Emirates to manage some of America’s largest seaports. What on Earth are they thinking?

At a time when our country is threatened by terrorists, how can anyone seriously consider allowing the United Arab Emirates to manage our seaports?

This is a “pre-9/11 mentality” if ever there was one.

<SKIP>

Frankly, I’m tired of all of this “outsourcing” of American jobs. It’s especially galling when work involving homeland security is outsourced.

Wow. Normally you can't pin Dorgan down on much of anything. He has a degree in ambiguous speak.

1. Dorgan is very strong on many issues
He doesn't have a stong personality, but he is very forthright and has fought hard on the liberal/progressive side on a number of issues including trade.

He was, for example, on the Senate floor for hours speaking out against the "free trade" corporate giveaways and "fast track" during those fights.

He also has been speaking out and challenging the monopolization and consolidation of media ownership for years. I saw an interview in which he strongly spoke out against radio consolidation, for example, at a time when most other Democrats ignored the issue.
