Poll question: So, just exactly how will the ports deal make it past Congress?
Today, one of CNN's overpaid teleprompter readers declared that the ports deal would be allowed to stand, after some political maneuvering. Assuming the so-called journalist is correct, I'm wondering how DU thinks it'll happen.

1. I don't think any of these are quite right. The members of Congress will
simply be informed as to how much $$$$ there is to be made, the media likewise, and the gullible Republican constituents will be sold a flag-wrapped bill of smelly goods like usual.

4. Over at freepturdland...
...sentiments are still running high against the deal. Granted, they're the lunatic fringe. But B*sh has spent the last five years whipping up hatred of Muslims. Add to that the fact that the lack of port security has been a steady issue, in the last couple of years, and it seems like this should be the perfect storm (to use an overused cliché). If the deal does get a pass despite public opinion, has the time finally come that not one damn vote of the American electorate will matter in 2006 or 2008?

And, you're right. The media will do their part, omitting major details of the news and spinning the rest, reporting the results of surveys designed to elicit false results (see NSA wiretapping polls), and whatever else the RNC tells them to do to "catapult the propaganda."

2. Of course there could be a Democrat led fillibuster BUT........
....for the fact that some Congressional Democrats will either vote for this OR they will simply not even try to block it. Either way I think that UNFORTUNATELY this is a done deal.

3. the legislation would be to block the ports deal
so if they filibustered it, that would allow the deal to stand.

7. They may as well pack their shit up and get out
go play golf in Scotland or something. They are all a waste of air and space.

8. After a period of public and closed door hearings
and an up-to-the-minute account by breathless Rita Crosby clones, the deal will go through after the gullible public has been sedated enough so that the real questions are not asked: the profits being made by Bush's friends and allies.

9. There will be no vote.
It will be by consent of consent of the Repub leaders in the House and Senate, in cahoots with Bush and Cheney and CFIUS and the CFR...

10. Schumer, Hillary, and Menendez are going with the deal!
There were just on TV announcing their support for a 45-day "real investigation" followed by Congressional hearings and approval.

11. Can I hope that the "approval" is dependent on the investigation?
If it is that was what Democrats were asking for - if the investigation is real - they will look at the ramifications of this.

12. It's all smoke.
Most of Congress will comply and obey their Corp. Masters.
