I just heard that Melman had signed on to help McCain's PAC fund-raising.

Seems like the GOP has come to an early decision as to they will run in 08.

And they already have the media like Tweety at MSNBC on board.

Amazing.

loves McCain for some reason.

We need to get the word out that McCain has wanted MORE soldiers to go to Iraq, not less. This is what will sink him. The only way to get more soldiers is a draft, and Mrs. FancyPants Security Mommy will certainly NOT sacrifice her pampered darlings in McCain's continuance of the war on terror.

7. Agreed
For some reason, the PR on the guy is great, probably because of his halfassed attempt at campaign finance reform. Other than that, he's a doctirinaire wingnut who will be bad for the country.

Of course, if the DNC can't get its act together and wake up from its dream of a country full of yuppies and a docile base that will vote against its own economic interest, the GOP will be able to get a ham sandwich elected.

"I'm not *" is the only campaign slogan the 08 candidate needs.

9. Not everybody loves McCain, I don't ,and remember he still has
to go through an election. He has some down traits. 72 years old in 2008,for the war and sending more troops even now, short temper, for the ports deal, and I think we should start distributing that awful picture of him and Bush embracing.

15. Yeah...I mean, with Mark Warner's extra strong National Security
credentials, he's a shoe in to beat McCain and the Republicans at their own game! Just when the Repugs have finally become weaker in that area.....we should nominate a guy who's so strong in the NS/FP arena (Warner?), until Democrats take 2008 with hands tied behind our backs! :eyes:

Plus if the Repugs put out a Osama tape, Mark Warner and the Democrats wins....hands down against McCain! :sarcasm:

GOP Offers McCain Helping Hand
Republican Party chairman's unusual show of fundraising support is another sign of the Senator's frontrunner status
Republican Party chairmen, by custom and practice, don't pick favorites in presidential primaries.

So it was a significant development last week when RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, an as down-to-his-boots Bushie as you're likely to ever find, privately told John McCain that he would be willing to lend a hand raising money for the Arizona senator's political action committee, multiple Republican sources told TIME.

Six years after the Bush team, which included Mehlman, all but trashed McCain in the ugly 2000 Republican primaries, Mehlman's move was another signal that the party's allergy to McCain is lifting as the senator continues to garner positive looks from the GOP's key base of financial fundraisers. Roughly a dozen top fundraisers attending a closed RNC meeting this week in Naples, Florida, privately promised McCain, who delivered a speech to the group, that they would be with him if and when he ran.

Mehlman, as party chair, can't go that far. But before the Naples session ended, he told McCain he'd help him raise money for his leadership PAC, which gives money to Republican congressional candidates. It was another sign that party leaders realize that a man they not so long ago reviled can, and just might, win the nomination.

One party official told TIME that "the chairman is working with McCain just like he's working with other '08 aspirants and it's in his job description to do so." But there is no question that Mehlman's offer was another sign of warming between the party establishment and its frontrunner. "Obviously," said a McCain ally, "we're gonna take him up on the offer."

real stupid.

I use to think McCain was a moderate. I finally figured out that this was the media perception and not mine at all.

I will never be fooled again.

8. Unless the Democrats screw up, McCain cannot win.
But remember, McCain is the GOP's best hope to retain power. All other candidates will fall short. We need Wesley Clark as our nominee. With Clark, McCain is done for.

Is General Clark "pure" enough?

Wouldn't we prefer some big bucks raising Mark Warner instead? I mean, he's a Governor from a Red State and all! :sarcasm:

10. I think Kerry can take on Mc Cain. He knows him and has worked
with him. Debating, Kerry has him beat. I am not convinced McCain is unbeatable. The polls reflect name recognition and media appearances, but he has to get through a campaign and closer scrutiny.

12. Also, Kerry likely knows where all McCain's buttons are
and he likely could push them, while looking sincere and Presidential himself.

The other thing is if the issue is corruption - and McCain is already signalling that he is a reformer. McCain has some corruption, while Kerry doesn't. Kerry closed down a corrupt bank - even when his party leaders didn't want him too. McCain's record with banks is being one of the Keat 5.

16. No, Kerry did NOT "fuck" it up.
Diebold and ES&S "fucked" it up for him. I believe Kerry would have been and can still be one of the best presidents this country has ever had.
