"She has an astounding pattern of dishonesty" (Ohio's Jean Schmidt)
Well, Jean, you've now reached the ranks of the rest of the corrupt cabal of nutcases also known as the Ohio GOP!

Schmidt's degrees questioned
Staff says she has hours, if not parchment

BY MALIA RULON | ENQUIRER WASHINGTON BUREAU

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060401/NEWS01/604010404

WASHINGTON - A second elections complaint against Rep. Jean Schmidt was filed Friday, this time over allegations that she misrepresented her educational background.

According to the complaint, filed with the state elections commission, Schmidt claimed on candidate surveys, previous campaign Web sites and in official Ohio House literature that she earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of Cincinnati, one in political science in 1974 and one in "social studies-secondary education" in 1986.

But UC Registrar Douglas Burgess said the only degree on file for Schmidt is a bachelor of arts in political science.

The reason for the discrepancy, explained Schmidt's chief of staff Barry Bennett, is that the Miami Township Republican has completed the hours required to earn a second bachelor's degree, but she didn't collect it....

This is the second complaint that the Coalition Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes has filed with the Ohio Elections Commission, which voted this week to investigate whether Schmidt claimed bogus endorsements on her campaign Web site, such as one from Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Westwood.

"She has an astounding pattern of dishonesty," COAST chairman Jim Urling said.

3. "She has an astounding pattern of dishonesty."
That appears to be the most important qualification for a Republican politician.

6. If she was honest, she would not be allowed to run on the GOP ticket
It is a prerequisite for republicans before running for office, they must prove their dishonesty

10. Schmidt, Taft, Blackwell, Bush...
You really have to wonder why at this point any sane person from Ohio would vote for a GOP ticket. From the outside this looks like some bizarre form of state suicide.

14. Actually, FWIW I collected my diploma late...

...there was this exemption form for a lower level math class that I had forgotten to file in my Freshman year and since I was gainfully employed I didn't care. I put it off for a couple of years.

But for the record I didn't claim to have the degree on my resume when I applied for the job I had.

Schmidt's a sleaze, but this particular item doesn't really necessarily say anything other than she's not very diligent when it comes to truth and accuracy. There are better examples of her complete disregard for truth.

11. I bet more than a few Republicans in that district are
beginning to realize that Mean Jean is not the dream representative they'd hoped for.

Her verbal assault on John Murtha was inexcusable. I hope voters in that Ohio district line up in the driving rain to remove her from office.

12. All Ohio GOP is corrupt and dishonest
and they're proud to be that way, its part of their subculture. Arrogance and dishonesty are their badge of honor.

And the Ohio news media has covered it up for years. Surprising they're talking about it now.

And does this put Hackett in for that district? Does she have to be impeached, and will the Republicriminals back her?

18. Err - one doesn't have to "collect" a diploma if one has earned it.
The degree is granted and it is on your record whether or not you actually have the di[ploma in your possession. If the degree was not granted, then you did not meet all of the requirements, no matter how many credit hours you may have. Mistakes are made, but students usually follow up and get the paper work straightened out if they actually earned the degree. I don't buy her excuse. If she didn't actually get the degree she has no right to claim it regardless of the number of courses taken. Besides, you would be surprised at how many students claim that they have "taken all of the coursework" and then when one start asking questions one finds out that the student was actually one or more semesters short of the actual requirements.
