Buchanan on Countdown. GOP Strategy: Scare Base w/ "Rangel"
He said it. I was there. I heard him. He was telling Keith how the GOP could pull themselves out of the toilet and keep control of Congress. He said all they had to do was tell the conservative base the things that a Democratic Congress would do lots of SCARY things. Right at the top of the list was....

Have Charlie Rangel head a committe.

This is code for have African-American Congress people like Rangel, Conyers, McKinney running things for a change. This means he is telling the GOP to exploit the racism which permeates so much of its conservative base in order to get those voters to the polls this fall.

I recommend that everyone watch the re-run of Countdown tonight and see it for themselves. It is not often that you see a conservative admit something like that.

1. I certainly hope Rangel is a committee chair.
And the first order of business in a Democratic Congress should be a formal apology for the impeachment of Bill Clinton in 1998, followed by a formal rescission of the articles of impeachment, and expunging from the record.

11. What you say is a fact.
But it is not the issue.

And if we don't win in November it is academic anyway.

Between now and then is a lot of misery. It is comming.

I so want the Democrats to stand for something - I really do.

This war was wrong = SAY IT Dems, PLEASE!!!

We're FDR's party. We speak our mind here.

2. That strategy might backfire
as people look around & say "how can it get any worse than this?" ;)

3. sorry pat but the racists are not a majority of americans.
they are probably something less than the 1/3 that have supported bush no matter what.

if its just the race card they play, it wont be enough.

8. They aren't a majority but...
... they are a motivated minority. If they can drive the greedy, fundy, and the racist all to the polls it might be just enough to squeak out a win.

13. No, the thread is telling is to go proclaim what the GOP wants us to.

Or at least what Pat Buchanan says that the GOP should want its base to believe are the things that we will do as soon as we take power.

Nothing about ending the war or health care for all or balancing the budget or any of the things that are REALLY at the top of the Democractic agenda--because those would be popular.

14. Pat wrote one of the most eloquent arguments against the
"Stupid War" I have read to date.

He is more Democrat then republican at this point, and he knows it.

I think a lot of traditional conservatives fit the same bill.

10. It is not just him,
Buchanan's views are OUR views - this is scary.

There will be no draw down this summer of soldiers -
Not going to happen - and at this point I'd vote for anything that made that happen.

Pat has got it right - And we are in a lot of trouble here.

Mr Buchanon is a populist and a patriot. I do not agree with a lot of the tactics, but I think of him as a patriot. In the same breath of John Kennedy as a patriot.

They are teaching kids (soldiers) to speak Iraqi now, you think they are going to pull out??

How would you like to be one of those kids left behind if they did pull out a large number of other kids??

This is going to be a bad summer.

Joe
