The Season of Swift Boat is Here Again
Sitting in the oncology ward at Children’s National Medical Center on Jan. 19, retired Adm. Joe Sestak and his wife, Susan, awaited the doctors’ verdict about the condition of their 5-year-old daughter, Alexandra.

She had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last summer and given three to nine months to live. The Sestaks lived for four months in the ward. They watched as their daughter survived three surgeries, and as she endured chemotherapy.

But that winter day, doctors told the Sestaks that Alexandra had done remarkably well and that, although the cancer could reemerge, she could resume living like a healthy girl.

...

Weldon attacked Sestak’s decision to continue owning a home in Virginia while only renting in Pennsylvania and questioned why Sestak did not move back to Pennsylvania when he was working at the Pentagon. Weldon commutes from Pennsylvania each day.

Weldon also suggested Sestak should have sent his daughter to a hospital in Philadelphia or Delaware, rather than the Washington hospital. Sestak said that as soon as doctors give his daughter the all-clear, he’ll buy in Pennsylvania.

The image painted by Sestak’s former colleagues at the NSC is entirely positive.

Enough is enough. Those who can afford it, could you please drop off $5.00 at Sestak's campaign site?

Note: I have absolutely NO relationship with the Sestak campaign.

1. Great post - thank you.
Weldon knows he has to pull out all the stops this time. He will go low, don't doubt it for a second.

2. This is beyond disgusting.
How low can you these people go? Just when you think you have seen the worst, you find a candidate attacking a man because his daughter had life-saving medical treatment out-of-state.

Weldon is one of those 'family values' guys that the GOP oozes out so often. What kind of 'family values' does it take to attack a man over his sick child?

Check is in the mail! These bastards have got to get out of office. They have spewed enough poison into the body politic as it is.

3. I've not heard of this guy before .......
But I like what I see on his web site ..... and can absolutely support a guy who stands by his family first.

Weldon must be one despicable SOB.

4. Thanks for pointing this out.
Read through everything. This is someone I'm happy to support.

:kick:
So others may see and decide whether they'd like to add a little to Sestak's coffers.

I'm really impressed with him, his platform, and the campaign team he's put together so far. When he tells the story about his daughter it is uplifting and hopeful, not like someone looking for sympathy. All the more reason Weldon's remarks are cretinous.

I think Joe Sestak has a real shot at taking down Weldon, and I appreciate the support from folks like you!

btw there's a good post on the front page at dailykos about this:

7. What difference does it make
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 05:11 AM by tenshi816
where Sestak gets treatment for his daughter? Am I missing something? The taxpayers aren't footing the bill, are they (the way they unknowingly did for Santorum's children's schooling)? Surely the most important thing was for Sestak's daughter to get the best treatment available, wherever that might be.

This is just beyond weird.

Edited to add: The next time Weldon attacks Sestak for daring to seek the best available treatment for his child's life-threatening illness, Sestak should respond by inquiring about Weldon's "family values" and his callous lack of empathy. I hope that doesn't come across as cynical because I don't mean it that way and I'm not suggesting Sestak exploit his daughter, but I think his opponent's breathtaking hypocrisy needs to be pointed out. Our Democratic candidates aren't always so good at that.

8. utterly revolting,
and such a perfect illustration of the republican definition of family values. It's hard to imagine a person who would be convinced to vote for Weldon though this kind of tactic.
