John Gibson: "Economy is roaring along" but "good news gets buried"
Isn't it INTERESTING how Rush Limbaugh currently describes the economy as "roaring"...now Gibson does, too...it's ALMOST AS IF someone gave them a SCRIPT to read...

Good News, Literally
Friday, April 07, 2006
By John Gibson

Good news gets buried. Sometimes you really have to dig to find it. Take the economy: Nobody ever says anything about the economy unless it's bad. The economy is roaring along. New jobs numbers Friday and another round of this economy producing more jobs. It's no wonder people from all over the world want to come here. Interest rates are up, but guess what? They're still low. You can buy a house. You can make a profit on your house. The real estate bubble didn't pop. You know what else? New York City announced that there are, at this moment, fewer people on welfare in NYC than any time since Lyndon Johnson was president. He was last president in 1968. So we're soon going to be at a 40-year low for welfare recipients. That's good.

You know what else is good? ABC News released some pictures of anchorman Bob Woodruff. Woodruff was blown up by an IED while shooting a story in Iraq a few months ago. His cameraman was also hit, but not as bad. Woodruff took the brunt of the blast. These new pictures released by ABC News show Woodruff looking good. And in the statement he released he says he's about to start outpatient rehab, and he's doing great. For all the hollering that goes on about the mainstream media and if it is covering the war in Iraq right, Woodruff got out of his comfy anchor chair at ABC's "World News Tonight" and went to Iraq. He was hurt while covering the story of Iraqis taking over Iraq's security. So give Woodruff his props and congratulations to him and his family for what seems like a good recovery.

So there. Good news. It isn't all bad by a long shot. People have jobs, people are off welfare and the handsome young anchor is recovering from a terrible bombing that could have killed him.

1. Another pundit who makes $500,000 a year who is out to lunch
I sometimes find even liberal pundits to sometimes be just clueless about the reality of living in this economy. Making that kind of money, going to swanky cocktail parties in Georgetown and the Upper East Side does that to you after awhile.

3. And the Americans were committing suicide...
...in the shadow of the walls of Baghdad during the invasion.

Gee, when did Fox News hire the Iraqi Minister of Information to coach its 'journalists'?

bewilderedly,
Bright

4. Fewer people are on welfare in NYC
Because qualifications for welfare have been made more stringent with enforced deadlines (you can only receive welfare for 5 years total over your entire lifetime). In other words, welfare rolls have been reduced by simply not paying attention to the people who need it.

12. And besides ... if you are on welfare
you cannot afford to live in New York City.

The rents are insane... even with subsidies

13. Heh. Yeah, there's *that* too
Never mind the homeless. Oh we move them to somewhere less likely to be seen as soon as we discover one in Manhattan.

16. The rents are way, way beyond insane.
A friend of mine was recently told that the building he lives in is going to be renovated and turned into a series of condos. Now he's already paying out the eyeballs to live there, but he was told that since he is a previous resident, they would offer him a REDUCED PRICE if he wanted to buy into the new structure. It's an 800 square foot unit, and he can get it at the discount of $810,000. That's over a grand per square foot. Of course, he can't afford that, so now he's got to find a new place. . . which is pretty hard since the only way he could afford his old place was that he was grandfathered in at decent price.

9. That was the worst part of the article for me...
...I felt like his attitude was "S**T Happens...hey, he got hurt, but he's gettin' better, get off my back..."

I wonder how Gibson would have handled Woodruff's injuries. I wonder what his column would have sounded like if he'd stood in that man's shoes.

But that's the joy of Fox, and Limbaugh, and Coulter, and the rest...it's Chickenhawk City. They just have to sit on the sidelines and read whatever Karl Rove or Karen Hughes sends them and all is right with their world.

7. Maybe there are some GM people who just lost their pension.
That saw Gibson's glowing report and finally swore off Faux News.

I expect the propaganda effort to redouble, in light GWB being exposed as a traitor.

Many will finally realize they are being lied to. Others will continue to wallow in their own ignorance.

I think all traitors to the People and Nation should be punished.

11. In the last week, the propaganda effort RE: the economy HAS redoubled.
That was the purpose of my post...not so much what Gibson said, because I think we're all familiar with his M.O. by now, but the fact that he's "joined the chorus" and is using the SAME vocabulary as Limbaugh and the rest.

You're right...whether it's a disenfranchised GM worker or anyone else on the receiving end of George W. Bush's "roaring economy," THOSE are the people who will need to step up and tell their stories.

14. The economy IS roaring along...
...if you are a member of the "Ownership Class", the top 10%.

For the 90% of us who have to work for a living, the economy SUCKS!!!

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.
