This weekend, I heard a snippet on the local (FL) "news" that some Republican faction or other was trying to convince Jeb Bush to run for Senate against Bill Nelson instead of Harris... being as how he's running up against the end of his second term as Governor of Florida...
Of course, I can find no coverage of that bit of information on the internet--and Jeb has said in the past (at least as of 2004) that he wouldn't be running in 2006 (nor for President in 2008).
Bill can handle the much hated (and deservedly so) K. Harris, but he's also a relatively mediocre Senator who, if he had a strong challenger, would probably be in trouble. That is, if he faced Jeb Bush, we could have a problem, for Jeb, despite his politics, seems to be generally well liked around these parts.
As for Jeb, he does seem a kind, concerned and humane sort of fellow (his concern for the people hurt by the hurricanes certainly seemed heartfelt) as well as being well spoken and personally likable... except for his politics. It's strange, from his demeanor and some of his personality, you'd almost expect him to be a Democrat--then, of course, he stands up for Republican policies (pro-business, no real support for labor/wages, and other party lines). Then again, that is his declared party, his family's party and it's both who elected him and therefore his job to support Republican Party policies. I wonder if he's conflicted; or if he's just got a smooth act, or if he's actually a 'traditional' conservative (which is just so much more honorable than the modern/current "Republican"). Alas, I haven't paid much attention to Florida's State politics, so I don't even know whether his actions match his words. Doesn't matter though, as a Republican he is to be opposed no matter what political office he seeks.
As a nation, we need to rid ourselves of all Bush's in polics.
