Blackwell defensive about stocks
Inside Columbus
BY JON CRAIG | ENQUIRER COLUMBUS BUREAU

COLUMBUS - Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's campaign for governor was in defensive mode last week when his annual financial-disclosure statement revealed he owns stock in companies that produce slot machines, voting machines, tobacco and the morning-after pill.

Blackwell's opponents quickly cried foul, since the Cincinnatian is against abortion and gambling.

In addition to Diebold, the election-machine vendor from North Canton, and International Game Technology of Nevada, Blackwell's multi-million-dollar portfolio includes stock in Halliburton; Weatherford International, a Houston-based oilfield company that moved to Bermuda to avoid paying U.S. taxes; Altria, the tobacco-producing company formerly known as Philip Morris; and Barr Pharmaceuticals, maker of Plan B, the morning-after pill....

1. How pathetic
Phil Burress, president of Cincinnati-based Citizens for Conservative Values, said, "His enemies are going to try to make something out of this. His friends are going to look at it to see if the iron man of integrity made a mistake.

The part in bold makes me ill. He has no integrity and I'll remember the name Phil Burress as someone who is full of sh**.

"And those who know him know that he would never, ever, under any circumstances, knowingly do something or invest in something that's contrary to his values. That's why he has the support of the value voters,'' Burress said.

8. Well then, Mr. Burress, if he's that damned clueless...
... and unable to monitor even his own finances then he has no business being governor of Ohio!!

Sheesh -- "iron man of integrity" my ass. I feel like these neopukes are playing some politcal game of "Gaslight" (for those of you familiar with the film reference).

5. And yet another one gets caught with his pants down...
more hypocricy from the do as I say, not as I do crowd.

He needs to be removed from office due to his obvious conflicts of interest. He cannot do his job effectively or honestly when he is personally invested in these companies.

The Governor needs to ask for Blackwell's resignation, especially in light of the very real concerns of voter fraud in the state.

6. The Idiot Son Taft is so embroiled in scandals of his own...
... that calling Blackwell on the carpet would be adding yet another hypocrisy to that corrupt cesspool of "leadership" in Çolumbus.

12. They know about page views, unique visitors and "stickiness" which is
how long you stay on a page. I always click through from DU links even if I am not going to read the article and then I pause long enough to have read it.

DU could be a rolling Nielson family. Unfortuanately top referring IPs are noticed and can be deduced via an IP lookup.

11. Made a Killing in Philip Morris Stock
It reminds me of the time my incredible cheap brother-in-law bragged that he "made a killing in Philip Morris stock". There was complete silence around the Thanksgiving dinner table because he had no idea what he had just said.
