So, the president manipulated intelligence about why we went...
...to war in Iraq to rebut charges that he manipulated intelligence about why we went to war in Iraq?

Is that about the size of it?

3. It sounds ridiculous out loud. It looks ridiculous in print.
If it were a background banner for a presidential speech it might say, "Protecting Our Reputation".

7. Yes. I was attempting to explain the entire sequence of events
and situation to my wife this morning and found that it was impossible to cast the mess into any form that made sense. It's a web of subterfuge, impossible to grasp in totto.

10. I phoned in your post to local buzz page.
It certainly was pithy enough, but few papers print such on-target points against the Bushboy.

5. That's part of the reason
See my comment here.

The reason was two-fold. First, manipulating the intelligence made it appear that there was some basis for war against Iraq, when in fact there was not and they either didn't know there was or actually knew there was not. Second, anything inaccurate in the intelligence could then be blamed on the intelligence community.

Bush and the neocons were lying about what they knew and setting up the CIA to take the fall.

6. That's what good Christian men do, apparently
For the dead-enders and the no-hopers in the GOP who still support this lying sack of crap, it's beyond me why they think it's permissible for someone to wage war, lie about the reasons for that war, and take retribution against folks who call them on their lies. But as long as George is waving a cross while he indulges all this mendacity, it's perfectly all right with any number of folks in this country who style themselves as Christians.

I guess I missed the part of the Bible where it was okay to lie if you did it to prop up your poll numbers. I remember Jesus and Isaiah, Jeremiah and Amos, Micah and Paul all having some pretty harsh words for people who deliberately lied to cover up their own mistakes and shortcomings.

8. Although I am not a religious person, for most of my life I was
very tolerant, even respectful of those who were. However, I have become very entrenched in the idea that religious "cults" or far too dangerous to be allowed a free reign. If they minded "their own" business that would be fine. But, their "business" seems to be minding our business, to the detriment of all life on Earth, including their own.

12. Yup. It's called a 'cover-up.'
He lied to protect other lies. This is what got Nixon shit-canned in Watergate.
