Florida District 5: Healthcare Guy vs. Rubber Stamp
4/12/06 John Russell, candidate and frontrunner in a field of 3 Democrats for the Florida District 5 U.S. House seat, will give voters the opportunity to send a “New Breed of Democrat” to Washington this fall, an “Authentic Progress

John Russell announced today that it is official. He will be a candidate on the Florida Primary Ballot for Florida’s 5th District Congressional seat this fall. He thanked his campaign manager, Jim Clarke, for designing a petition card collection drive that would touch as many voters as possible over the 100 day window allotted by the State of Florida. “As a result of this effort, I along with my 100% “volunteer” team of experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic campaign workers, spoke with, and carefully listened to, approximately 13-14,000 potential voters while collecting over 6,500 petition cards, on schedule, and according to plan.”

John also made a special note regarding that plan: “This was a TRUE GRASSROOTS petition drive effort! I am humbled by our many dedicated volunteers, having worked so hard on my behalf, without compensation, to achieve our shared goal. Their enthusiastic effort expressed to me just how deeply they trust, and believe, in my candidacy. To “The Team” I say THANK YOU!”

John has listened to the people from Florida’s Congressional District 5 and they have given him his mission. They want a Congressman that will stand up for them. They know it is time to send a new breed of Democrat, an authentic Progressive Democrat, from Florida’s 5th Congressional District to Washington who will stand… with the people, by the people, and for the people. A Congressman who will go to Washington to represent the people of Congressional District 5 and not "special interests".

“Team Russell” spent the 100 day window re-introducing the voters to John Russell, spreading their enthusiasm for John across District 5 and the State. In his announcement he reminded us that: “We are a great state, full of great people, who deserve legislators intent on serving the needs of the citizens of District 5. Our current representative clearly has not fulfilled her responsibility to this district. ”

John’s personal and political history has been one of standing up for truth and fact. John Russell is the acknowledged expert among ALL candidates including the incumbent congresswoman in this race on matters pertaining to health care. A Nationally Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, John has notably performed in the most demanding of critical care environments.

Combining his academic and clinical experience caring for people from all walks of life and in all manner of circumstance. John possesses the quiet self-confidence and critical thinking skills honed through years of making important choices on behalf of his patients. In addition, John has earned an MBA in Health Systems Management, providing John with all important expertise in the areas of economics/management and in particular, health care policy development; in addition to his formidable clinical knowledge of the inner workings of health care. In his announcement John promised to: “Continue to bring this strength to the table as I reach out to the citizens of District 5.”

John’s voice is being welcomed and heard across the State of Florida. John Russell will work tirelessly to:

• Stand up to Special Interests
• Preserve Social Security and Improve Medicare
• Fulfill Our Nation’s Promises to our Veterans
• Preserve and Secure our Nation’s Natural Resources
• Provide Access to Healthcare for all Americans
• Fight for Fair Trade, Economic and Tax Policies
• Protect Civil Liberties While Providing for National Security
• Invest in educational opportunity for our nation’s youth who are our future
• Extricate the US from the failed policy in Iraq

John listened to the people across District 5 and he knows what they want. He phrased it this way: “Here in Florida we live by our values. We will not abandon our students, our elderly, our disabled and our poor in exchange for giveaways to oil companies and the super-rich. We want honesty, integrity and leadership that has not been bought or sold, to be the standard for our government. This campaign for Congress is not about me, it is about you. It’s about all of us working together, finding answers to the challenges that face us, and building a better tomorrow for everyone. We now know the right direction to go in, now let’s get to work!”
