Give 'em Hell, Harry! Reid fires back at Bush re Senate immigration bill!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/13/AR2006041300724.html

By DAVID ESPO

The Associated Press
Thursday, April 13, 2006; 3:24 PM

President Bush accused Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid on Thursday of "single-handedly thwarting" action on immigration legislation, and got a brisk retort in return.

"President Bush has as much credibility on immigration as he does on Iraq and national security," shot back the Nevada Democrat.

6. Its a shame that this issue is partisan
I am a very loyal Democrat and have not voted for a Republican since Bush Senior when I was 20 years old. However, I have sent letters to my senators and congressman that I will not vote for them if they don't support Frist's version of the immigration bill. Although, rather than making 11 million people felons I support the stoppage of all services for illegals, including school for their children. Felony level charges for anyone hiring illegals, eliminate their jobs and they will leave. Make it very unpleasant for them so they will go back on own. I made it very clear in my email to Bill Nelson's office that I will not vote for him if he does not support the Republican version of the immigration bill. There are mostly democrats in my family and they are equally determined to make this the issue that wins or loses their votes for a Democrat.

9. Perhaps you should just ask them to follow the current law - lock
up some of the CEO's who hire illegals - then there won't be a reason for people to sneak across the border.

This is an election year distraction issue, and your support of it is, well interesting.

Enjoy your time here at DU

11. Sounds like The R's have roped you in with their '06 wedge issue. It is
also a distraction from all the sh*t coming down on the Bush administration and the ethically challenged, rubber stamp Republican Congress. Karl Rove will be most pleased that you have taken the bait. They told us several months they would be making it the issue for the mid-terms, and, indeed, they have--with the help of the obsessed Lou Dobbs.

Illegal immigrants amount to less than 5% of the work force in the United States. The problem is good paying middle class jobs that have been shipped overseas while Bush's cronies are allowed to continue to rip off hard working Americans. What has Bush done to help with gas prices? Nothing, zip, nada!

We are blowing up $6.5 billions dollars a month in Iraq, and what do we and the Iraqi people have to show for it? A couple of elections and no functioning government. Bush has borrowed more from foreign countries than all the other presidents combined. We are in deep sh*t, and we must do everything we can to get control of one or more of the houses of Congress to stop these corrupt incompetents from driving our country completely in the dirt.

Forget illegal aliens, they are not the problem. Bush, his corrupt cronies, and his rubber stamp Congress are the problem.

13. Nobody Ropes me in
I am first and for most an American and my passion for a particular party has waned dramatically. If something makes sense I am for it regardless of which party supports it. I am not going to eliminate an idea because repubs are behind it. Funny part of this is I like John McCain but don't like his co-sponsored bill with Kennedy.

To those that doubt my being a democrat; I dedicated almost every weekend for 5 months to the election campaign of Jim Stork as well as many of my nights after work. I am very progressive when it comes to personal rights and issues and tend to be very conservative when it comes to national defense.

I do think we will be forced into a war with Iran. We cannot allow them to have nuclear weapons; not that it will matter what we want; Israel will force our involvement.

15. You like John McCain? The man has a very conservative voting record, and
has now voted to extend Bush's dividend and capital gains tax cuts, after previously voting against it. Seventy per cent (70%) of the tax savings from investment went to the top 2% of taxpayers.

http://money.cnn.com/2006/04/05/news/tax_cuts/?cnn=yes

McCain also supported the recently passed South Dakota abortion legislation--except then he said he would make an exception for rape and incest. Well, John, you either support the legislation as passed, or you don't.

As for Iran, experts estimate they are anywhere from five to ten to fourteen years away from being able to produce a nuclear weapon. There is plenty of time for effective diplomacy--only the Bush administration is refusing to meet with the Iranians. Sound familiar?

16. Good for Harry. Glad to hear it & keep up the good work.
I think the Generals' call for Rumsfeld's head took the cake this weekend, but I give Harry credit for a strong voice in opposition to a bad president.

Go, Dems.
