Another fake campaign photo (New Orleans Mayoral race)
From justinspace.com:

I realize New Orleans has seen better days, but if you're running for Mayor of that city you should probably pose in the real thing, and not, as Kimberly Williamson Butler has done here, pose in Disneyland's New Orleans Square.

Notice the trashcan? I'm not making this up. After her site goes down I have the screen grab here.

8. FWIW, the image is still on the website
You'd think the twisting street and the lack of sidewalks would have been a dead giveaway.

7. Agreed it does look the same, But..
Maybe Disney designed their streetscape to be an exact copy of the real thing? It's certainly a possibility.

14. She's not even actually there...
Its a composite photo - the lighting on her is different to the background, and the angles are all wrong. It looks like they just pulled some stock footage of "New Orleans" and got the Disney one by mistake.

18. I think you nailed it
I just did a google for "new Orleans square" and got lots of Disney stuff and very little actual NO imagery. The question is, why didn't she just go down to the French Quarter with a photographer and snap a few action shots?

23. Photographers = Time + Money
That is absolutely a composite photo -- she's not actually there.

I'm sure some web-designer dug for some stock "New Orleans" photography, found that one, and then pasted her in front to make a masthead for the site.

As for not going down there to take a picture, location shoots aren't as easy as taking vacation photos.

Really, nothing to see here, folks. This isn't some Kaloogian snow job to "catapult the propaganda". As a graphic designer, I can see how easily something like this could happen.

Clerk of court comes out of hiding
Saturday, March 04, 2006

Ending one strange political saga by starting another, the clerk of New Orleans Criminal District Court, Kimberly Williamson Butler, surrendered herself to an irate criminal court judge Friday morning after a week of ignoring court orders and arrest warrants, and then walked outside the courthouse to announce her candidacy for mayor.

...snip...

Criminal District Court judges had sought Butler's arrest after she defied a court order to transfer the authority over her office's FEMA application and the cleanup of its flooded property room to an outside judge, appointed to take on that task by the state Supreme Court.

...snip...

This week's dispute marks the third major dust-up in Butler's short political career, following an ugly and public fight with Nagin in 2003 after he forced her out, alleging she was unable to get along with his staff, and the 2004 election she botched as clerk of court, forcing hundreds of voters to wait hours in line before voting machines arrived.

16. Williamson-butler
has become the clown princess of New Orleans politics. She is a laughing stock and a failure at just about everything she has involved herself in. As Clerk of courts she fucked up at least one election by getting the voting booths to the places late. She also got her ass thrown in jail for three days for ignoring a judges order then got out and compared herself to Rosa Parks.

FOLKS, I AM VERY AWARE OF THE STREETS OF THE FRENCH QUARTER, OLD KIMBERLY JUST FUCKED UP AGAIN CAUSE THAT AIN'T THE BIG EASY. YOU CAN ALMOST SMELL BOURBON STREET IN ANY PHOTO.

Even campaigning as a Democrat, apparently. With the way her site keeps emphasizing the word right I assumed she was a right-leaning Republican but one of the posts here says she's a Democrat.

That curved street looks more like Lafayette than NO. I don't remember a street like that at all in NO. Is there one?
