Oy! The News Hour tonight (Fri).....
You had to see it...but wherever do they find these loons??

Margaret Warner interviewed two individuals about the Iranian situation. One was a professor (I forget his name) whose tone was measured, rational and factual, at least as he saw it.

The other was Patrick Clawson, of the Washington Institute for ME Policy. His delivery was like fingernails on a blackboard. He sounded like a childrens' librarian narrating a story hour for a group of three year olds. You know...that kind of "arch" delivery that only works if you're talking about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Well, you had to see it!

And why is it that the Bushco shills pronounce it nu-ku-lar (as did Mr. Clawson). Is this his way of showing he's part of the in-crowd? Margaret Warner and the professor pronounced it "nu-clee-ur", by the way.

1. Was this the first segment?
I usually try to get home in time for the entire program but if that's up first, I'm going to the market before heading home ... Just so long as I don't miss Shields and Brooks (or Oliphant and Brooks or Shields and Lowry or ... whoever).

8. Probably too late, now...
but it was the second half I think, just before Brooks and Shields. Maybe there's video somewhere.

2. I'm still mad at Jimmy Carter for mispronouncing it, and he was
a nuclear physicist. Maddening! Must be a pet peeve.

3. Where were the muppets?
I opened your post just as I was watching Clawson. I was expecting a group of Sesame Street muppet puppets to break out into a song next. He was in the studio with Warner - why didn't she pass him a note telling him the average age of the audience?

9. Clawson on how DIFFICULT deterrence was in the Cold War
which he apparently is too young or Prozacked to remember........ ran down a list of all the ("HARD WORK!") reasons that nations complied, neglecting to mention the incentive of

MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wtf: :nuke:

10. He was bizarro
I kept watching Margaret's face as she listened to him, wondering what she was thinking. I don't know how she kept a straight face.

13. Yeah, weird. I posted about it in GD.
The exagerated facial expressions and head fakes looked like an hyper young acting class student over-emoting.

14. The Sy Hersh article listed Clawson as one of the principal
architects of this Admin's thinking (such as it is) on Iran. You can see his testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on March 2nd of this year in which he talks about the plans for Iran. (And it you click on Clawson's name at the SFRC site, you can see a pdf with his views on Iran and the justifications the Admin was putting in place before the Senate for dealing with Iran. This is original source material. If you click on the name of the hearing, it will play in a a real-player format.)

15. Right. I was laughing, asking where in the hell did they dig up this
kindergarten teacher to EXPLAIN Iran to the American people. Margaret looked stunned when he started talking. Really, it was funny.
